LISBON - A woman who tried to conceal a smoking device containing cocaine while she was being booked at the Columbiana County Jail, was sentenced in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Friday to 12 months in prison.

Christy A. Harpold, 35, Ogden Street, East Liverpool, was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs onto a detention facility or institution.

She asked Judge C. Ashley Pike to consider helping her get some counseling for her addiction problems instead of sending her to jail. Harpold claims she has been unable to get into some treatment programs in the past because of her lack of insurance and has made appointments at free counseling programs only to miss those due to her drug use.

"I think the EOCC (Eastern Ohio Correctional Center) would be great for me," Harpold said. "I really want help."

Pike pointed out that while she may know she needs help, her multiple felonies and probation violation issues factored into his decision to send her to jail for 12 months.

"You need to go away, follow the rules and regulations, take part in any programs available to you and look for a program to help you when you get out," Pike said. "You are someone who needs support, I can see that."
