SALEM - Donna J. Shanley, 70, of Salem died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at the Salem Regional Medical Center after a very long and courageous battle with cancer. Donna made a peaceful trip back to Heaven while surrounded by her family.
She was born April 28, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of the late Grace Mae (Thomas) Davis. Donna was a graduate of Aliquippa High School and was Presbyterian by faith. Donna held various secretarial jobs throughout her life but her favorite and most rewarding job was being a wife and mom.
Donna and her husband enjoyed weekend getaways with friends and their cruises on the open sea. She will be greatly missed by so many people, but embraced with open arms by so many more in Heaven.
Survivors include her very caring and loving husband of 49 years, David Shanley, whom she married Oct. 3, 1964; two daughters, Holly Ellis and Ronda (Tom) Goetz, both of Salem; a son, Wayne (Joanie) Shanley of Vacaville, Calif.; two wonderful grandsons, Dillian and Travis Franklin; two beautiful granddaughters, Haley and Taylor Stewart; a sister-in-law, Chrissy Davis of Aliquippa, Pa., and a brother-in-law, Jim Waddell of Cranberry, Pa.
A sister, Carolyn Waddell and a brother, Glenn Davis, also preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Joseph Randa officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.
