SALEM- Helen Patricia (Geygan) Merrill, 83, of Copeland Oaks Retirement Community died at 12:19 p.m. Thursday.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late James E. and Margaret Jane (Ingram) Geygan.
She had attended the Ohio State University and Ohio Office Training School.
She met the love of her life, Charter Barr Merrill, and they married on June 11, 1951, in Worthington, Ohio.
They moved to the Salem area and made their home here. They were former members of the Salem Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church. Her husband was an insurance agent and owner of Young and Merrill Insurance Agency here is Salem. They raised their two children, Dan and Molly, and enjoyed life together. They enjoyed traveling, sailing their boat up on the lake, camping and visiting with all their friends.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Gene (Tracy) Merrill of Clayton, N.C.; daughter Molly Jean (Kurt) Buursma of Holland, Mich.; grandchildren Erin (Corle) (Matt) Milito of Ada, Mich., Kelli (Corle) (Jesse) Flores of Kewaskum, Wisc., and Eric (Abby) Corle of Allendale, Mich.; and great-grandchildren Makenna Corle, Liam Flores and baby Milito due in February.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 11, 2003, and a sister, Margaret Anne Whitney.
There will be a joint funeral service held for her and her husband in early spring. The Rev. Connie Sassanella will be officiating the services and the burial will be in the family plot in Grandview Cemetery.
