United school board to meet Tuesday
HANOVERTON The organizational meeting of the board of education of the United Local School District begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the United High School library. The regular monthly meeting follows.
Salem VFW auxiliary plans breakfast
SALEM - A public breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. Jan. 19 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892 Mens Auxiliary at the post home, 496 Arch St. Haystacks, or a traditional breakfast consisting of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage patties, toast, orange juice and coffee, are available. Cost is $5 per meal.
Beaver Local Hall accepts nominations

Arbor Day Assoc. offers flowering trees
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - Residents of Ohio can ring in the New Year with 10 free flowering trees by joining the Arbor Day Foundation any time during January. By becoming a part of the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation, new members will receive two Sargent crabapple, three American redbuds, two Washington hawthorns and three white flowering dogwoods.
The free trees are part of the foundation's Trees for America campaign. The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting, between Feb. 1 and May 31, with enclosed planting instructions. The 6 to 12-inch tall trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.
Members will also receive a subscription to the foundation's bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book, which includes information about tree planting and care.
To become a member of the foundation and to receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution, before Jan. 31, to: 10 Free Flowering Trees, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, Neb. 68410. Ohio residents can also join online at arborday.org/january.
Leeetonia schools offer walking program
LEETONIA - Leetonia Schools will open its building for a community walking program, in specified areas, from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Flu vaccinations set at Mahoning health board
YOUNGSTOWN - Flu vaccine will be administered from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Mahoning County District Board of Health, 50 Westchester Drive.
Most private insurances will be accepted. Remember to bring insurance cards, Medicare and Medicaid cards so the cost of the vaccine can be billed. The quadrivalent flu shot, the nasal spray or the trivalent intradermal flu vaccine cost is $30. High dose trivalent flu vaccine is available for those 65 years of age and older for $50. Vaccines offered through the Vaccine for Children program are $21.25. No appointment is necessary.
