SALEM - John Stoita Jr., 85, of Salem, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 after a short battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna (Nica) and John Stoita.
John was a 1946 graduate of Salem High School, where he was a State Track Qualifier in the hurdles. He was an Army veteran, serving at the end of WWII and retired from the Chrysler Corporation after 25 years.
John was a lifetime member of the VFW, a past member of the Romanian Society "Leul," an avid history buff and an ardent Ohio State fan. John loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sports and other activities and was always an active part of their lives.
John leaves his wife of 39 years, Patricia (Loutzenheiser) Stoita; his sister, Betty (Abe) Bricker; a daughter, Paula Wright of Beloit; a son, Russell Sutherin of Salem; five grandchildren, Kathy (Dan) Williams, Shawn Wright, Heather (Matt) Sutherin, Shannon (Kim) Shroyer, Russell (Alycia) Sutherin; a niece, Christine (Rob) Murphy; a nephew, John (Jackie) Bricker; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Father Robert Edwards officiating. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
