Candidates to speak at Career Center

LISBON - Charlie Earl, Libertarian candidate for Ohio governor, and other candidates, will be at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 7. Refreshments will be served.

Second Harvest food distribution set

SALEM The Second Harvest food distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 10 at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. Participants are reminded to bring baskets.

Pricing, schedule offered for swim lessons

SALEM - New pricing and a schedule for Youth Learning to Accelerate your Potential for Swimming (LAPS) has been announced at the Salem Community Center. LAPS will now run multiple eight week sessions in 2014. The first session will run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Saturday, Jan. 11 through March 1. Pricing is $55 for members and $70 for non-members. A swim cap is provided for new participants. Multiple child discounts are available. For information call 330-332-5885.

Dementia seminar planned in Damascus

DAMASCUS - Five to eight percent of all people over the age of 65 suffer from some form of dementia, or someone you know has been diagnosed with dementia. You may be feeling anxious or confused about what it means to live with dementia. To learn more about this important topic, family practice physician, Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, will present a free educational seminar, "Inside Dementia," from 6:30 to 8p.m. Jan. 13 in the Canyon View Room, at the Damascus Friends Church, 28857 Walnut Street in Damascus.

Dr. Cohen will educate members of the community on symptoms, causes, types, treatment, and prevention methods of Dementia. Light refreshments will be served.

This series of free seminars is sponsored by Firestone Healthcare Inc., Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Senior Independence Home Healthcare and Hospice, Alliance Community Hospital and Salem Regional Medical Center.
