Gingerbread Day 2013

December 15, 2013
Salem News

Over 400 children participated Saturday in the daylong 2013 Gingerbread Day. The yearly event, held at Salem High School, was free for Salem children ages 3 to 13-years-old. The event included face painting, a showing of a "Frosty the Snowman" video, writing letters to Santa, singing Christmas carols, the reading of Christmas stories and the building of gingerbread houses. Snacks were available in Mrs. Claus' kitchen. About 199 pounds of candy was donated. Each child received a book courtesy of the Salem Community Foundation. And, of course, Santa Claus made a special visit, shown here with Mrs. Claus and wide-eyed 4-year-old Avery Yerkey. (Salem News photo by J.D. Creer)
