Public invited to live nativity Friday, Saturday at Blossom Nursing and Rehab

SALEM - The public is invited to view a live nativity from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Blossom Nursing and Rehab, 109 Blossom Lane.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will offer hot chocolate and cookies as you drive through the display.

Showcase of Talents and Treats will be open this weekend at Salem Golf Club

SALEM - The Showcase of Talents and Treats will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club Pro Shop. Admission is free and open to the public.

Santa will visit during all-you-can eat dinner at Summitville Fire Station

SUMMITVILLE - Santa will visit during an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner to be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Summitville Fire Station.

Cost is $6 for ages 12 and up, and free for 11 and under. Carryouts are available.

Complimentary holiday jazz concert is Dec.17 at the Salem Community Center

SALEM - A complimentary holiday jazz concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Salem Community Center.

Featured for this free event is the Jack Halkides Quintet with special guests including Peggy Coyle. For more information call 330-332-5885.

Food distribution for United District residents is Dec. 21 at Winona Friends

WINONA - A food distribution, for families and individuals living in the United Local School District, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 21 at the Winona Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road.

Salem Community Hospital, Community Center co-sponsoring blood drive

SALEM - Salem Community Hospital and the Salem Community Center are co-sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. Dec. 27 at the SCC.

The American Red Cross has designated this drive a "Double Red" donation site, which means that individuals meeting certain criteria may elect to give two units of blood at one time.

Donors will receive a brick of Dunkin Donuts coffee and a coupon for a free pound of coffee.

Donors will also receive a free day pass to the SCC and will be registered in a drawing for a Das Dutch Haus gift certificate. For an appointment call 800-RED-CROSS.

Salem Community Hospital's Water Exercise Together will be held Jan. 6-Feb. 13

SALEM - Salem Community Hospital's Water Exercise Together class allows residents of all ages to enjoy the benefits of exercise, without excess strain on the joints and muscles. The new calorie burning aerobics program at the Salem Community Center is slated Jan. 6-Feb. 13.

Classes meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Participants can attend any two sessions per week for $55. Pre-registration for the class is required by calling 330-332-7771.

Second-half checks for SHS Alumni Association scholarship recipients available

SALEM - Second-half checks for Salem High School Alumni Association scholarship recipients are now available at the alumni office, 330 E. State St.

Students are welcome to pick up their checks as soon as they have received their final first semester grades and can provide a copy of the grades to the office. Students should also bring photo identification.

With the exclusion of Christmas Day and New Year's Day, the office will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Public invited to Christmas bazaar planned Saturday at the Smith Center

SALEM - The public is invited to a Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Center, 500 E. Fourth St.

Several vendors will offer crafts, crocheted items, baked goods and stocking stuffers. Kerry the "Bling Bling Lady" will feature designer-inspired purses, wallets, jewelry, clothing, belts and shoes.

New Waterford United Methodist Church hosting pancake-plus breakfast Saturday

NEW WATERFORD - The pancake-plus breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Waterford United Methodist Church, 46925 S. State St. Donations will be accepted.

West Branch Instrumental Department presenting holiday concert on Sunday

BELOIT - The West Branch High School Instrumental Music Department will present its annual holiday concert at 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school auditorium.

The free performance titled "Sounds of the Season" begins with the Percussion Ensemble performing "Christmas by the Numbers" composed by director of bands, Robert J. Barnett.

The Jazz Ensemble will perform "Here Comes Santa Claus," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Silver Bells" and "Hot Chocolate." Featured soloists include Zach Haberland, Dustin Kober, Bobby Parsons and Brianna Rzucidlo.

The Symphonic Band's selections will include "Christmas Music for Winds" composed by John Cacavas, David Foster's adaption of Mannheim Steamroller's "Carol of the Bells" titled "Holiday Piece," Jay Dawson's "Wenceslas Variations" and "A Fireside Christmas," a medley of holiday favorites arranged by Sammy Nestico.

Memorial Building offering trip to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron

SALEM - The Memorial Building is offering a bus trip to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The trip includes a tour of the former estate of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.

This year's theme is "Deck the Hall: Heaven and Nature Sing" which features "Dazzle," the light show spectacular that includes 750,000 lights, 21 decorated rooms, poinsettias, nightly entertainment by area choirs and performers, visits with Santa, a gingerbread hut and treats from Molly's Shop.

The solarium will feature decorated trees and a frog collection; the breakfast room will be filled with birds surrounding a decorated twig tree and Virginia's room will be transformed into a winter garden.

A poinsettia tree and poinsettias will fill the tower staircase. The music room will be appropriately festooned with harps, horns and angels in silver, white and gold to create a "heavenly" atmosphere for nightly entertainment by the choirs and performers.

The museum store offers a full line of apparel, accessories, books and unique gift items. The bus will leave Salem at 4 p.m. and return at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $13 for adults, $6 for children and free for 5 and under. Transportation costs are $14 per person.

Beef tips and noodles dinner will be served Friday at Salem VFW Post 892

SALEM - The public is invited to a beef tips and noodles dinner with green beans and a salad from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892, 496 Arch St.

Cost is $6. Pie slices will also be sold at $2 each with proceeds to be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project. Carryouts are available.
