Obamacare ad appeal backfires

November 26, 2013
Salem News

Americans don't seem to want? Appeal to heavy drinkers and promiscuous women.

That's what some in Colorado are trying in an attempt to get more people to sign up for Obamacare health insurance. The advertising campaign was created by ProgressNow Colorado and the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative.

One ad features a picture of a young man and young woman, neither married, to judge by the lack of wedding bands on their fingers. In the ad, the woman is thinking ''OMG, he's hot! Let's hope he's as easy to get as this birth control. My health insurance covers the pill, which means all I have to worry about is getting him between the covers.''

Another ad pictures three young men and a keg of beer. It advises ''Don't tap into your beer money to cover those medical bills.''

Both ads and others with similar themes encourage people to sign up for health insurance through the Obamacare program.

Incredible? Not really. It was reported that during a month and a half in which President Barack Obama's administration has worked hard to convince Americans to participate in Obamacare, only 26,794 people have signed up for it.

Unless millions more fall for the Obamacare pitches, the whole house of cards will come tumbling down. So, if anything, the advertising campaign may become even more absurd during the next few months.
