'Safe Halloweening' offered at Essex

SALEM - "Safe Halloweening" will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Essex of Salem II, 250 Continental Drive.

East Palestine Library book sale set

EAST PALESTINE - The Friends of the East Palestine Memorial Public Library will sponsor a book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the basement at 309 N. Market St. Thousands of hardback and paperback books (fiction, non-fiction, and children's books), VHS, DVD's, cassettes, books on tape, games and puzzles will be available. All proceeds from the sale are used for library programs and other purchases that benefit the library.

Fire departments plan open house

LISBON - Center, Elkrun and the Lisbon fire departments will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the fire station located at 113 S. Jefferson St., Lisbon Refreshments will be served.

Greenford Ruritans offer breakfast

GREENFORD - The Greenford Ruritan Club is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the South Range High School cafeteria. Proceeds from the breakfast will go to the South Range Senior Scholarship Fund.

East Fairfield Election Day Bazaar set

NEW WATERFORD - East Fairfield United Methodist Church at 45675 state Route 558 will hold its annual Election Day Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 in the church fellowship hall. A soup and sandwich luncheon will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The bazaar includes adult and children's clothing, household items, baked goods, homemade candy, and a book sale. Bargain Day will be held on Nov. 6, when all remaining items will be available for $1 per bag.

Proceeds from the event will support various mission projects of the United Methodist Women. For more information call the church office at 330-457-2465.

Big Wheel lunch planned Nov. 6

COLUMBIANA - All former (Fisher) Big Wheel employees are invited to a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 6 at Das Dutch House in Columbiana.

Blood drive set at Alliance Hospital

ALLIANCE - Alliance Community Hospital will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7 in conference room 1-A.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years with parental consent), weigh no less than 110 pounds and be in generally good health. A photo ID or their Red Cross donor card is required at registration. Donors are encouraged to drink additional fluids at least 24 hours prior to the drive and eat a meal before donating. Tickets offered for play at Heartland

COLUMBIANA - "Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen," a play by Craig Sodaro, under the direction of Trent Holden, will be presented at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9 in the Fine Arts Center at Heartland Christian Middle School, 28 Pittsburgh St. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students, and a family pass for $10.

EP Holiday Open House planned

EAST PALESTINE - The annual Holiday Open House and Gift Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 8 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 at Unity Grange on state Route 170.

Local artisans representing unique gifts and wares include Sycamore Alpaca Farm, Tina Dilworth, Jones Embroidery, Diane Jones, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Lori Nestor Miche Bags, Molly Stevens Tastefully Simple, Mindy Sandine The Paintin' Parlor, Jo McDevitt and Deb Hanolt. There will be a bake sale sponsored by the Century and Emmanuel Youth Group.

Grange members will serve food from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until sold out, featuring homemade sandwiches, soups and desserts. Carryouts are available.

Soup lunch set at Jerusalem Lutheran

COLUMBIANA - Jerusalem Lutheran Church Preschool, owned and operated by the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 415 S. Main St., is holding its annual soup lunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10. The event is sponsored by Thrivent Chapter 30766. Carryout and sit down service will be available. Leftovers will be sold in the kitchen on Nov. 11. The proceeds of this lunch will be used for scholarships to preschool students and a portion given to the church for utilities.

Toys for Tots boxes put in place

SALEM - The Toys for Tots program has donation boxes set up in over 25 locations throughout Columbiana County. New, unwrapped toys can be donated through Dec. 11. Toys for Tots in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corp has been collecting and distributing toys since 1947.

The local collection sites are: Huntington Bank (Salem, New Garden, Washingtonville, Sebring, Columbiana, Lisbon and East Palestine); Farmers National Bank (Salem, Leetonia, Damacus); J.C. Penney and Big Lots in Calcutta; Dunkin' Donuts (Salem, east and west, and Columbiana); Giant Eagle, Lyle Printing/Farm and Dairy, Dollar General stores, downtown and East End, and State Farm Insurance in Salem; Whispering Pines, Fairfield Machine and Edward Jones in Columbiana; and Dairy Queen Leetonia.
