EAST LIVERPOOL - A pursuit Monday evening starting on state Route 7 and encompassing at least 10 miles and speeds up to 90 miles an hour ended when the motorcyclist crashed on the entrance ramp to state Route 7 south.
Sheriff's deputy Richard Kimble first spotted the sport bike traveling south on state Route 7 near the intersection of Clarkson Road with an expired California license plate and attempted a stop, but the bike continued on.
Kimble said the driver appeared to pull over near Bear Hollow Road then took off again, continuing onto state Route 267 into Glenmoor, then onto Irish Ridge Road, finally turning south onto state Route 11.
According to Kimble, the motorcycle reached speeds of 90 miles per hour at some points, getting so close to vehicles that their mirrors were nearly striking the driver.
Other police departments, including St. Clair and Liverpool townships and East Liverpool joined the pursuit in an attempt to head off the driver.
As he continued onto the Wellsville exit ramp, he tried to pass a semi truck but struck gravel and the motorcycle crashed on the left side of the ramp, according to Kimble, who said as he reached the driver, he attempted to pick up his bike in an apparent attempt to continue his flight.
"I knocked him and the bike back over," Kimble reported.
The driver, Devon Allen, 21, Glasgow Road, Lisbon, was not injured and was taken into custody by Kimble.
Although reports were not finalized last night, Kimble indicated he expected to charge Allen with felony fleeing and eluding, no motorcycle endorsement, speeding and reckless operation.
City police said he would be charged by their department with no motorcycle endorsement and failure to control as a result of the crash.
