Dedication of Hickory Bend gas processing plant set

October 22, 2013
By LARRY SHIELDS , Salem News

NEW MIDDLETOWN - The Hickory Bend Processing Plant will be dedicated on Oct. 28.

Pennant Midstream is constructing the Hickory Bend gathering system in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania which is associated with the plant that is located at 10846 South State Line Road.

The project is a joint venture between NiSource Midstream Services and Hilcorp Energy Company's midstream affiliate Harvest Pipeline.

The Hickory Bend project is approximately 55 miles of wet gas gathering pipeline facilities and represents a $375 million investment in the region including the cryogenic processing plant in Springfield Township.

The facility, which is still under construction, chills natural gas to a point where dry gas, such as methane, is separated from natural-gas liquids (NGLs).

These liquids will be converted to products such as butane, ethane or propane, delivering further value to the marketplace.

NiSource Midstream will operate the system, which is expected to initially provide approximately 400 million cubic feet per day of both wet and dry gas gathering, with significant anticipated expansion opportunities based on production activity in the area.

The plant is expected to come online in December of 2013 and the entire Hickory Bend project will be completed by June of 2014, Pennant Midstream officials said.

While there is only one NGL processing facility currently under construction at the 90-acre Mahoning County site, the company is preparing for two additional plants in anticipation of the increasing need for midstream services in the area as the Utica shale play is developed.

The long-term investment could top over $1 billion once all the midstream infrastructure in Pennsylvania and Ohio are completed.

NiSource Midstream Services (NMS) is a wholly-owned entity of NiSource Inc., a Fortune 500 energy utility company.

One of the Columbia Pipeline Group companies, NiSource Midstream Services was formed to provide specific natural gas producer services, including gathering, treatment, conditioning, processing and liquids handling with a focus on the Appalachian Basin.
