Richard G. “Windy” Whitacre Sr.

EAST PALESTINE- Richard G. "Windy" Whitacre Sr., 80, of Pinewood Drive, New Waterford, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center in Columbiana, where he had been a patient since March.

He was born Dec. 22, 1932, in Rogers, a son of the late Donald and Olive Walters Rice, and had resided in the New Waterford area for several years. Windy had been employed with the Ohio Turnpike Commission for 18 years, and had owned and operated his own truck for years.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.

Windy is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Henry; two sons, Richard G. (Tracy) Whitacre Jr. of Columbiana and Dean (Lorri Gouldsberry) Whitacre of Columbiana; and a daughter, Debra (Daryl) Caldwell of Rogers. He also leaves two brothers, James Whitacre of New Waterford and Robert Whitacre of Lisbon; and five sisters, Janice Weingart of Salem and Ginny Baughman, Linda Wehr, Carol Dickinson and Karen Wicks, all of New Waterford. He also leaves six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with his pastor, the Rev. Mark McTrusty, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
