EAST PALESTINE - George W. Libert Jr., formerly of East Palestine, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Community Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past 12 days.
Mr. Libert was born Nov. 18, 1925 in Youngstown, a son of the late George W. and Olive Shelton Libert, Sr., and had resided in East Palestine for the past 38 years, coming from Negley. Prior to his retirement several years ago, he had been employed with the former Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
His wife, the former Ruth Fletcher, whom he married Aug. 10, 1946, preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2001. Two grandsons and a great granddaughter also preceded him in death.
In addition to his daughter, Janet Lindner of Enon Valley, Pa., he leaves a son, George Libert III of Beaver Falls, Pa., and two sisters, Mildred of Oregon and Geraldine of Ohio.
The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday where a memorial service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation. Officiating will be Dewayne Herron of the Enon Presbyterian Church. Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the American legion Post 31 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4579.
