Fairfield Township Ruritan

Club members meet today

COLUMBIANA - Members of the Fairfield Township Ruritan Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at Heck's Restaurant.

Lisbon volleyball team hosting

a 'Volley for the Cure' martch

LISBON - The Lisbon volleyball team is hosting a "Volley for the Cure" match at 10 a.m. Saturday against Heartland Christian and Sebring.

There will be a bake sale, Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Damascus Ruritan Club plans

community food collection

DAMASCUS - The Damascus Ruritan Club's second annual Nourish Our Community Food Collection is slated 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Damascus Post Office's parking lot.

All food items will be accepted, including perishable or non perishable, garden vegetables and fruit, and also paper products and cleaning supplies. All items will be shared with area food pantries.

Checks for monetary donations may be made out to the Damascus Ruritan Food Collection, and dropped off at the site or mailed to the Damascus Ruritan Food Drive, P.O. Box 94, Damascus, Ohio 44619-0094.

Also on Saturday, the club will hold its second annual rabies clinic.

Veterinarian Jack Zines will administer vaccines from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department's meeting room on state Route 534. Cost is $8 per animal. All dogs must be on leashes, and all cats must be confined in a cage.

Fairfield-Ruritan Class of 1960

will meet for lunch Oct. 3

COLUMBIANA - The Fairfield-Waterford High School Class of 1960 plans to meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3 at Casa de Fiesta in East Palestine.

Steak fry and dance will be held

Oct. 5 at Lisbon VFW Post 4111

LISBON - A steak fry and dance will be held Oct. 5 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4111, 210 E. Lincoln Way. Food will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Dinners include a half roasted chicken for $9; 12-ounce strip steak for $11; and 16-ounce T-bone steak for $14. All dinners include salad, baked potato or fresh-cut french fries, roll, coffee and free admission to the dance.

The dance follows from 8 to 11 p.m. Music will be provided by Cowboy Up. Admission to the dance is $5, or free with a meal purchase.

Reservations are requested by Oct. 4. Walk-ins are welcome. For more information call 330-424-7586.

Free sibling class offered by

SCH's Family Ed Program

SALEM - To help siblings prepare for the arrival of a new baby, Salem Community Hospital's Family Education Program is hosting a free sibling class from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 12 at the hospital.

The class will include age-appropriate discussions on the physical characteristics, behavior and care of newborns. A tour of New Beginnings Family Care Center, SCH's maternity unit, will also be provided.

Class is open to children ages 3 to 10 who must be accompanied by a parent. To register call 330-337-4989.

Blood screening scheduled

at North Lima Care Center

NORTH LIMA - Area residents can learn more about their health by participating in a comprehensive blood screening, sponsored by Salem Community Hospital's Outreach Services and Laboratory, on Oct. 19. Screenings will be available by appointment only at the North Lima Care Center, 11993 South Ave., North Lima. Cost is $40.

Comprehensive blood screenings can help to identify many health problems in their earliest stages, when they are most treatable, and may detect conditions such as high cholesterol, anemia and other disorders.

Participants may add a prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening to their comprehensive panel for an additional $10; or an HgA1C diabetes screening for an additional $25.

A lipid profile, which measures cholesterol levels and is included in the comprehensive screening, is also available alone for $10. For an appointment call 330-549-9680.

Craig Beach Fire Department

hosting haunted fire house

LAKE MILTON - The Craig Beach Volunteer Fire Department's Haunted Fire House at 1797 Grandview Road will be open from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26.

The haunted house is handicap and stroller accessible and features a new design and new layout for 2013. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 11. Concessions are available.

McKinley fifth-grade students holding Veterans Day breakfast

LISBON - McKinley Elementary fifth-grade students are inviting all local veterans to attend the annual Veterans Day breakfast.

The breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 in the school's cafetorium. Veterans planning to attend are asked to call the school at 330-424-9869 to make a reservation before Nov. 1.

Benefit for Jimmy Stewart is Oct. 6 at Salem Eagles Club

SALEM - The public is invited to a benefit for Jimmy Stewart from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Eagles Club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave.

A spaghetti dinner will be served. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. There also will be raffles, a 50/50 and basket drawings.

United Local driver ed class registration is today, Friday

HANOVERTON - Registration for driver education classes at United High School will be held today and Friday during lunch in the cafeteria.

SALEM - A dance will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Salem Eagles Club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave. Music will be provided by Damaged Goods. The kitchen will be open from 8 to 10 p.m.

Winona Friends Church holding food distribution on Saturday

WINONA - A food distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Winona Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road. The distribution is open to families and individuals living in the United Local School District.

Leetonia Library hosting

clothing giveaway Saturday

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will host a free clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the community room. Bring a shopping bag or two, if possible.
