Church Women United to meet

SALEM Church Women United will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Education Building at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church parlor. Fellowship begins at 1 p.m. This month's guest speaker is Jan Powers of Circle of Care. Women from St. Paul Catholic Church will serve as hostesses.

Folk music topic at Columbiana Library

COLUMBIANA - Hank Arbaugh of the Ohio Humanities Council will present "Appalachian Folk Music" from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St. Registration is required in person at the library or by calling 330-482-5509.

Jewelry fair planned at Salem Hospital

SALEM - Salem Community Hospital's Auxiliary is sponsoring a jewelry fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 in the hospital's private dining room located adjacent to the cafeteria on the ground floor.

The public is invited to shop at the sale for high-quality rings, pendants, earrings, beads and gemstone jewelry at discounted prices. Proceeds will benefit the auxiliary which supports patient services and programs at the hospital. For more information call 330-332-7126.

Salem '54 breakfast set at Salem Hills

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1954 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Programs offered at Salem Library

SALEM - Three programs will be offered at the Salem Public Library including "Blind Date with a Book," Tree I.D. 101 and Tree I.D. 102.

In anticipation of Sweetest Day on Oct. 19, the library will give adults and teens the opportunity to go on a blind date between Oct. 1-19 - a "Blind Date with a Book" that is. Library staff will choose the books, books on CD, and also DVDs and wrap them up to be mysterious surprises to patrons so the "identity" of the items won't be known. A few horror stories will be available from Oct. 21-Nov. 2. Each time patrons make a selection in either category they will be encouraged to fill out a response slip to be entered into a prize drawing.

Tree I.D. 101 will be presented by Lynn Zocolo, assistant horticulture educator at Fellows Riverside Gardens, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 26.

Tree I.D. 102 presented by Zocolo, begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10. Registration is required for the tree programs either online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or by calling 330-332-0042.

Salem 1968 diner set at Ricky's Pub

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1968 will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Ricky's English Pub.

Oncology seminar set in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA - Cancer patients and survivors, their families and friends are invited for an evening of inspiration and hope as Salem Community Hospital hosts its annual oncology seminar at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Main Street Theater in downtown Columbiana

Back by popular demand, Jonna Tamases, a cancer survivor and award-winning actress, writer and producer, will return to Columbiana to present her newest live performance, "The Gisele Show: Symphony in Be Flat." This humorous account of her cancer journey is designed to leave audiences feeling moved, joyful and ready to use their own unique gifts to meet the challenges they face.

In addition to the show, the oncology seminar will include information booths, light refreshments and door prize drawings.Admission is free, but pre-registration is encouraged by calling 330-337-2895.
