Roof fire at Fresh Mark

September 20, 2013
Salem News

SALEM - City firefighters responded early Thursday morning to a small fire on the roof at Fresh Mark on South Lincoln Avenue where a company had been doing some roof work. The report said the fire was unintentional, with some roof material catching fire and smoldering. Fresh Mark maintenance called the fire department at 6:10 a.m.

Visible flames could be seen on the roof where a company had been working Wednesday. Firefighters removed an 8-foot square area around the origin of the fire, removing smoldering material and using water to extinguish the flames. The thermal camera was used to check whether the fire had extended, but it was confined to the area in question. Maintenance had a crew enroute to remove the roofing materials and replace the roof in that area.

Off-duty firefighters were called to respond and the department remained on the scene until 7:31 a.m. No injuries were reported.
