DAMASCUS - A community breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Damascus United Methodist Church, 300 Valley Road. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

Leetonia High School classes of

1958-61 will meet Sept. 24

LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School classes of 1958-61 are invited to breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 24 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Salem Music Study Club will

meet at Emmanuel Lutheran

SALEM - The Salem Music Study Club will hold its first meeting of the new season at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Educational Building.

Brenna Price, one of the club's scholarship winners, will present a flute program. All members are asked to pay the district dues at this meeting. For more information call 330-332-9534.

Salem High soccer team will

host breast cancer awareness

SALEM - The Salem Lady Quakers soccer team will host a breast cancer awareness game on Sept. 26 at Reilly Stadium, 491 Reilly Ave. Junior varsity plays at 5 p.m. followed by varsity at 7 p.m.

The event offers raffles, a bake sale, wristlets and other items. To donate to the bake sale call 330-429-0043 or to the basket raffle call 330-831-4900. All proceeds will go to breast cancer research.

AARP Driver Safety Program

offered at Community Center

SALEM - Area residents age 50 and older may update their knowledge and learn safe driving techniques during the AARP Driver Safety Program, offered at the Salem Community Center, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 27.

Designed specifically to meet the needs of mature drivers, class topics include defensive driving techniques, monitoring one's driving ability, avoiding distractions, use of automotive safety features, effects of medication on driving, adjusting driving to accommodate age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.

Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Some course graduates may be eligible for discounted auto insurance rates. Pre-registration is required by calling 330-332-5885. The class is co-sponsored by SCC and Salem Community Hospital.

Damascus Ruritan Club hosting

annual rabies clinic Sept. 28

DAMASCUS - The Damascus Ruritan Club will host its second annual rabies clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department's meeting room on state Route 534.

Veterinarian Dr. Jack Zines will administer the vaccine. Cost is $8 per animal. All dogs must be on leashes and all cats must be in cages.

Proceeds from the clinic will be used to help support the club's annual scholarships for graduating seniors from West Branch High School and other youth programs.

East Palestine Rotary Club

reschedules yard sale

EAST PALESTINE - The East Palestine Rotary Club has rescheduled its eighth annual community yard sale to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at East Palestine Park.

The event was originally scheduled for Sept. 21, but due to weather has been changed.

Space is available to rent by contacting Bonnie Davis at 330-271-1979 or any EP Rotarian. Contracts can also be picked up at the East Palestine Municipal Building, Rockenberger Auto Parts or Cornerstone Insurance.

Canine Carnival is Sept. 29 at

Alliance First Friends Church

ALLIANCE - The Paws and Reflect Pet Therapy Program will hold its fourth annual Canine Carnival on Sept. 29 at the Alliance First Friends Church, 1307 W. State St.

This program spotlights Alliance Community Hospital's pet therapy program and helps educate youth in the community on pet safety and care.

Participants will rotate through a variety of activity centers, some of which include therapy dogs, pin-the-tail on the dog, fire hydrant ring toss, crafts and face painting. A safety presentation will be provided by the Alliance Fire Department. To register call 330-596-7821.

Rabies prevention clinic will be

held at Oct. 5 at CCCTC

LISBON - A rabies prevention clinic will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, 9364 state Route 45 South.

The clinic is sponsored by the county health department and the Lisbon Veterinary Clinic. Vaccinations are $5 for pets that are 3 months of age and older.

All dogs must be on a leash and all cats confined or in a cage. Rabies vaccination certificates will be issued for all pets vaccinated.

Pioneer Craft Days set at

Beaver Creek State Park

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center is sponsoring a duck race during the Pioneer Craft Days at Beaver Creek State Park on Oct. 5 and 6. The race begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at the covered bridge.

The cost of a duck ticket is $2 each or three for $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Wildlife Education Center or at the Wildlife Education Center table in the park during Pioneer Craft Days.

Prizes are $100 for first, $50 for second, and $25 for third. Winners do not need to be present. Proceeds from the race help with expenses to maintain the center which will be open for tours during Pioneer Craft Days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 330-385-6250 or 330-301-0019.

Alliance Hospital offering

smoking cessation program

ALLIANCE - Alliance Community Hospital is offering a free smoking cessation program in conference room 1-B of the hospital at 200 E. State St.

The program is open to the public on four consecutive Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10-31. Smoking cessation patches are not being offered as part of the program. For more information or to register call 330-596-7125. For more information on ACH programs and services visit www.ach.org.

Crafters sought for Ladies

Auxiliar of VFW Nov. 16 show

ELLSWORTH - The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9571, Meander Post of Ellsworth is seeking crafters for its second annual craft show to be held on Nov. 16.

Damascus Ruritan Club helping

to feed the hungry in our area

DAMASCUS - The Damascus Ruritan Club is helping to feed the hungry in the area by sponsoring the second annual Nourish Our Community Food Collection from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 28 at the Damascus Post Office parking lot.

All food items will be collected including perishable and non perishable, garden vegetables, fruit, and also paper products and cleaning supplies. All items will be shared with area food pantries. Monetary donations are tax deductible.

Checks written to the Damascus Ruritan Food Collection may be dropped off at the site or mailed to the Damascus Ruritan Food Drive, P.O. Box 94, Damascus, Ohio 44619-0094.
