SALEM - Salem Community Hospital received some phone calls this week in response to a photo provided to the Salem News for the story on the hospital's history which was published Sunday.
The photo from the 1940s actually depicted student nurses from the Class of 1949 registered nurse school at Salem City Hospital, not candy stripers as was written on the back of the photo. Some callers also knew the identity of the student nurses. They were identified as Louise Mackey Ellyson and Dorothy Strohecker Myers.
A collection of old photographs to celebrate the hospital's 100th anniversary, which is Friday, can be seen on the hospital website at www.salemhosp.com and clicking on the 100th anniversary logo.
