United Class of 1960 will

meet today for breakfast

HANOVERTON - Members of United High School Class of 1960 are reminded that breakfast begins at 9 a.m. today at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Roadworks will perform

Saturday at Salem Eagles Club

SALEM - A dance will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Salem Eagles Club.

Music will be provided by Roadworks. The kitchen opens from 8 to 10 p.m.

Beaver Local hosting annual

band festival Saturday

LISBON -The Beaver Local "Red Pride" Band and Boosters is hosting its 11th annual band festival at 6 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Local Stadium.

Cost is $8 for adults and teens, and $4 for students under 12. The show will include Beaver Local's Band and Jazz Band, along with bands from Wellsville, East Palestine, East Liverpool, United Local, Freedom, Pa., Oak Glen, W.Va, Newton Falls and Sebring. Tickets may be purchased at the gate.

LEETONIA -Columbiana and Mahoning County Honey Beekeepers will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Chuck and Kathryn Hatch, 39729 Miller Road, Leetonia. A potluck luncheon begins at 1 p.m. (bring something to share).

Chartered bus trip scheduled

to Ohio Farm Science Review

LISBON - A chartered bus will travel to the Ohio Farm Science Review on Sept. 18.

The bus will leave the East Fairfield United Methodist Church at 5 a.m. and make a stop at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds at 5:30 a.m. The bus will leave the Ohio Farm Science Review at 4:30 p.m. to return home. SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1967's social and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 in the back room at Ricky's English Pub.

OFBF members encouraged

to attend online meeting

COLUMBUS -Landowners in 23 counties with property enrolled in the current agricultural use valuation program (CAUV) will once again see a rise in CAUV values, likely increasing what they pay in taxes.

Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) members are encouraged to attend one of four online meetings to hear OFBF Director of Legal Education Leah Curtis explain the program and the calculation that is used to value farmland.

Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 24, Oct. 9 and 21 and Nov. 12.

These meetings are free for Ohio Farm Bureau members to watch, but they must register online at to do so. Members will be able to submit questions through the registration process, and during the live presentation at each meeting.

County auditors are currently sending notices to landowners about property tax reappraisals/updates that are under way.

Counties that will see new CAUV rates on the 2013 tax bill arriving in January include: Adams, Carroll, Champaign, Clark, Columbiana, Fairfield, Hancock, Hocking, Holmes, Lawrence, Logan, Marion, Medina, Meigs, Miami, Monroe, Paulding, Ross, Scioto, Tuscarawas, Union, Washington and Wyandot.

Leetonia Sportsman's Club

Kids Day scheduled Sept. 28

LEETONIA - The Leetonia Sportsman's Club will hold its 38th annual Kids Day on Sept. 28 at the club grounds along East High Street in Leetonia.

There will be shooting, archery and fishing events for all children ages 6 to 15. Trophies will be awarded to contest winners and raffle prizes will be given away. A wiener roast will also be held. Everything is free of charge.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. and runs continuously throughout the day.

Photography competition

exhibit on display for viewing

POLAND - Entries in "The Beauty of the Woods," a photography competition organized by the Friends of Poland Forest, are currently on exhibit through Sept. 15 in The Gallery at Wittenauers, 122 S. Main St.

The photographs are on display from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to attend the awards presentation and reception at 2 p.m. Sept. 15. All photos were taken within Poland Municipal Forest.

Contest winners in the adult division are: Dana Nicholson of Boardman, first place and best in show for "Reflections;" Roy Passarelli of Poland, second place for "Midnight in the Forest;" and Brigitte Flick of Poland, third place for "Light."

In the teenage division, the winners are: Jordan Downie of Poland, first place for "Drip;" Sabrina Leonard of Struthers, second place for "Distinct;" and Kayla Ammons of Cortland, third place for "Inside the Tree."

Winners in the 12 and under division are: Brianna Hall of Boardman, first place for "Floating Black Leaf;" Diego Calderon of Poland, second place for "Tall Trees;" and Gabriella Calderon of Poland, third place for "My Walk with Grandma."

Multiple Sclerosis Service

Agency hosting Super Walk

YOUNGSTOWN - The Multiple Sclerosis Service Agency (MSSA) is hosting its 22nd annual Super Walk on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the James L. Wick Recreation Center located off McCollum Road.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. with coffee, juice and doughnuts provided.

The super walk is a four-mile walk through Mill Creek Park, past lower Bears Den, the lily pond, the wall garden and back to the starting point, where lunch will be served.

A 22-inch TV will be awarded to the walker who raises the most money. The second prize is a pair of walking/running shoes valued at up to $100 and the third prize is a $50 gift card. Walkers who contribute more than $125 will receive a Super Walk Sweatshirt. Walkers who contribute between $75 and $125 will receive a Super Walk T-Shirt. Transport vans will be available for those walkers who do not want to complete the walk.

All proceeds raised by the walk stays in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties to support the agency's many programs. Some of the services and programs the MSSA provides are: the MS Clinic at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, an equipment loan program, monthly support groups in various locations, information and referral calls, counseling referrals, educational programs and workshops, health fairs, holiday programs and picnics and swim classes at no charge.

MS is a disease of the central nervous system where scar tissue forms on the myelin which insulates nerves, thereby disrupting or completely preventing transmissions of impulses. Symptoms vary significantly and can include: blurred vision, impaired gait, bladder dysfunction, cognitive differences and paralysis. There is no known cause or cure, but the MSSA works with clients in understanding the disease and assists the individual in managing the illness.

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1971 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Adele's Place.

East Liverpool Hospital offering blood tests through Oct. 2

EAST LIVERPOOL - East Liverpool City Hospital is offering multiphasic and PSA blood tests through Oct. 2. Cost of the multiphasic test is $40. Cost of the PSA test is $15. The PSA blood test is used to screen men for cancer of the prostate.

Results will be sent to your family physician and you can pick up a copy of the results during the health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 in Ogilvie Plaza in Calcutta. Forms are available in the hospital's registration office.

Food distribution is Friday

SALEM - A Second Harvest Food Bank food distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. Those attending are asked to bring containers for the food.

Public invited to Ruritan fish fry

GUILFORD LAKE The public is invited to an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Club on Route 172 at Hanna Drive.
