1950s Columbiana film showing set

COLUMBIANA - A free screening of the l950s film of Columbiana showing retail shops, service clubs, schools, manufacturing plants, etc., begins at 1 p.m. today at Mainstreet Theater. DVDs of this film will be available for purchase.

An outdoor sports display by Dee Underwood featuring squirrels, turtles and wildlife will be set up today in front of the Columbiana Historical Society's Log House. Tickets for the annual quilt raffle will be on sale at the log house. The drawing will be held at 9 p.m. today. The museum will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. today.

Leetonia 1943 lunch planned

LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School Class of 1943 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Das Dutch Haus in Columbiana.

Columbiana school board to meet Tuesday

COLUMBIANA - The regular meeting of the Columbiana Exempted Village Schools Board of Education begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the high school media center. A "new hire" reception precedes the meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the high school commons.

DAHS 1953 breakfast planned

LISBON - David Anderson High School Class of 1956 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Taste of Country restaurant.

Washingtonville VFW meeting scheduled

WASHINGTONVILLE -The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532 meeting begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the post home.

Damascus Ruritan Club meeting planned

DAMASCUS - The Damascus Ruritan Club plans to meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Damascus United Methodist Church. Dr. Nick Koinglou, a chiropractor from Alliance, and his assistant, Molinda Krugel LPN will be the guest speakers.

Catholic Daughters of Americas to meet

SALEM - Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Salem design board meeting scheduled

SALEM - The Salem Design Review Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at city hall, downstairs conference room. The agenda includes an update on CLG grant activities/documents and an update on downtown historic district preservation and revitalization activities. Board members should call 330-332-4241 Ext. 228 if unable to attend this meeting.

Goshen Home Extension lunch planned

SALEM - Members of Goshen Home Extension will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Chicken and biscuits dinner offered

NEGLEY - A chicken and biscuits dinner with homemade noodles will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Negley Masonic Lodge, 50873 Richardson Ave. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Carryout orders are available.

Sky study planned at Senic Vista Park

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Columbiana County Park District has announced that, weather permitting, the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society members will be available with telescopes to guide the public in a study of the sky at noon Sept. 14 at Scenic Vista Park, 11523 Township Highway 764.

West Township Ruritan Fall Pull set

EAST ROCHESTER - The West Township Ruritan Fall Pull begins at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at the park on U.S. Route 30. Scales for the antique pull open at 10 a.m. Admission is free.

The evening pull starts at 7:30 p.m. with the scales open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 6 to 11. The kitchen will be open. For more information call 330-894-2902.

Driver ed classes offered at Beaver Local

LISBON - AAA Driver Education is still accepting students for the September class starting on Sept. 16 at Beaver Local High School. All area students are eligible to attend, including home-schooled students. For information call 330-532-2878.

Salem Elks Ladyies Auxiliary to meet

SALEM - Proposals will be read when Ladies Auxiliary of Salem Elks Lodge #305 meets at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17. Members are urged to attend. Pizza will be served.

L.A.P.S. swinning sessions offered

SALEM - The Salem Community Center is announcing another session of Learning to Accelerate your Potential for Swimming. The primary purpose of L.A.P.S. is to bridge the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming strokes with an emphasis on promoting wellness and fitness through the sport of swimming. Participants can look forward to building aerobic capacity and muscular endurance, improving strokes and fitness levels, building competitive skills, individualized goals based on skill level, and friendly competition through optional time trials. Three age groups are available: Tiger Sharks (7-12), Great Whites (13-19), and adults.

L.A.P.S. will run Sept. 9 through Dec. 19 with two sessions a week. Tiger Sharks will practice from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; Great Whites from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and adults from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Swimming 101, intended for beginner swimmers, is also available. For more information call 330-332-5885.

Fair officers to be elected Oct. 2

LISBON - The Columbiana County Agricultural Society will hold it annual election of fairboard directors from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the fairgrounds. Anyone wishing to become a candidate for office of director must be a member of the agricultural society and file a petition with the secretary, signed by 10 or more members, by 7 p.m. Sept. 25. To obtain a petition contact the fair office at 330-424-5531.

Damascus Historical Society to meet

DAMASCUS - The Damascus Area Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Pearce House meeting room. Members plan to clean the Quaker School house at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
