Leetonia Library hosting movies
LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will host a series of movies in September including the family movie of the month "EPIC," a PG rated animated tale of good versus evil, at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The series also includes the Anne Hathaway films "The Devil Wears Prada" at 1 p.m. Sept. 11 and "The Other Side of Heaven" at 1 p.m. Sept. 25.
Drive-thru chicken dinners will be sold
SALEM - "Chicken on the run" drive-thru chicken dinners will be sold from 4 to 6 p.m. today, until sold out, at the First United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway Ave.
The meal includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $7. Individual peach pies will be available for $3 each.
Red Cross blood drive scheduled today
WASHINGTONVILLE - An American Red Cross blood drive is slated from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532.
Portion of SR 46 closed for bridge work
CANFIELD - State Route 46 is now closed through late November between Western Reserve Road and Leffingwell Road for a bridge replacement. The detour is state Route 11 to U.S. Route 224 to state Route 46/U.S. Route 62.
This work is the beginning of a $720,000 project to replace a culvert on state Route 46 between Lesher Road and state Route 165.
The project also includes a bridge replacement on state Route 46 between Western Reserve Road and Leffingwell Road. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by late November 2013.
Singing Senior Citizen will entertain
GREENFORD - Loren Coler, the Singing Senior Citizen, will entertain from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Smokehouse Restaurant in the Bob Cat Space Center, 7600 W. South Range Road. He sings 50's style pop, country and gospel.
Kim "Big Daddy" Van Kleeck will entertain from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. He sings light rock and roll.

Salem VFW kitchen will be open Saturday
SALEM - The kitchen will be open to the public from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892, 496 Arch St.
The special is wings and fries. Wings are 50 cents each and available in barbecue, hot, garlic or ranch. Carryouts are available.
Chili Cook-Off, Car-Truck Show planned
ALLIANCE - After wrapping up its first year of service, the Stark Fire Department Rehab Unit (FDRU) will commemorate 9/11 with its Chili Cook-Off and Car-Truck Show fund raiser from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Beechwood Park Pavilion, 2270 Beechwood Ave.
According to Steve Clark, one of the event's organizers, entries still are being accepted for chili entries for the cook-off and vehicle entries for the car show right up to the competition.
Chili entries are $50 due with participants required to bring a minimum of two gallons for tasters, who can buy sample cups, or individual bowls of chili. The top three favorites will receive cash prizes.
Tables, chairs, bowls, silverware and napkins are provided, but entrants need to furnish their own extension cords and serving utensils.
Entries for the car-truck show are $10 each with voting by the participants, except for the People's Choice award. Entries can include cars, trucks, fire trucks, police cars, military vehicles, farm tractors, motorcycles and ambulances, with awards for first, second and third places, Best Specialty Unit and Best of Show.
In addition to the chili, hot dogs, pulled pork, chips and beverages are available for purchase.
The event also will include music courtesy of a DJ, the Stark County kids' smoke house, the Marlboro Volunteers' mobile museum, Box 15 from the Columbus rehab unit and an appearance by Alliance's own Gretchen the Fire Dog and her handler, Guy Aumend, as well as a 9/11 memorial service officiated by the Rev. Ron Bryant. All entry fees or donations can be made payable to Stark FDRU, P.O. Box 2765, Alliance, Ohio 44601.

Open house scheduled at East Palestine HS
EAST PALESTINE - An open house is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11 at East Palestine High School.
Crestview BOE will meet Sept. 11
COLUMBIANA - A special meeting of the Crestview Local School District Board of Education starts at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at Crestview Elementary School. A tour of the facilities is planned. The board's regular meeting follows at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
Business Connection luncheon series set
SALEM - The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will resume its Business Connection luncheon series beginning at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave.
Featured guest speakers are Attorney Shawna L'Italien and Attorney George Millich from Harrington, Hoppe and Mitchell Ltd. in Salem, presenting the topic, "Succession Planning for Your Business."
Cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for potential chamber members and guests. First aid, CPR certification class offered
EAST LIVERPOOL - Ohio Valley Home Health Services Inc. (OVHHS) will host an American Heart Association first aid and CPR certification class from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Community Education Center, 15679 state Route 170.
The CPR portion of the class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and first aid from 8 to 10 p.m. and may be taken together for the full four hours or separately.
The fee for the class is $40 for both CPR and first aid or $20 for a single course.
The first aid and CPR course will be offered monthly to residents in need of the certification for either professional or personal reasons.

Slovak Club hosting Marsha Marino benefit
SALEM - The Salem Slovak Club at 313 S. Ellsworth Ave. is sponsoring a benefit on Sept. 22 for Marsha Marino who is fighting cancer.
The public is invited to the event which features a spaghetti dinner to be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Cost is $7 per person, and $7.50 for carryouts.
There will also be a bake sale, Chinese auction and silent auction.

Free summer children's clothing available
LISBON - Lifeline of Columbiana County Pregnancy Center has free summer children's clothing available for children in sizes 0-18 months.

Kids Day is Sept. 28 at Sportsman's Club
LEETONIA - The Leetonia Sportsman's Club will hold its 38th annual Kids Day on Sept. 28 at the club grounds along East High Street in Leetonia.
There will be shooting, archery and fishing events for all children ages 6 to 15.
Trophies will be awarded to contest winners and raffle prizes will be given away. A wiener roast will also be held. Everything is free of charge.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. and runs continuously throughout the day.
Kids Day is held annually in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day.
