'Musical Extravaganza' set at East Palestine church today

EAST LIVERPOOL - "A Musical Extravaganza" with the Sgro Brothers will be presented today at the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Fifth St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are$15 and available at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame, 120 E. Fifth St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The new Fiesta Ware cookie jar is the door prize for one person in attendance. For information call 330-386-5443.

LCBA coverdish dinner to be held at St. Paul Thursday

SALEM - Loyal Christian Benefit Association Branch 654's annual coverdish dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the St. Paul School gym. Attendees are to bring a dish to share and table service. Guests are welcome.

SALEM - Salem High School Class of 1972 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Swiss steak dinner set at Columbiana church Friday

COLUMBIANA - The First Presbyterian Church at 28 E. Park Ave. will again provide a Swiss steak dinner 4 to 7 p.m. Friday during the Columbiana Street Fair. The meal consists of Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll, beverage and dessert. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Diners can eat-in or carryout.

Spaghetti, meatballs dinner planned in East Rochester

EAST ROCHESTER - The public is invited to a spaghetti and meatballs dinner from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the New Alexander Christian Church, 9665 Rochester Road. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Carryouts are available.

Breakfast to be served at Smith Grange Sunday

BERLIN CENTER - A country-style breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.n. Sunday at Smith Grange. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Carryouts are available.

Mill Creek MetroParks board to meet Sept. 9 at farm

CANFIELD - The next regular meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners of Mill Creek MetroParks begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 in the classroom at the MetroParks Farm on Route 46. The agenda will be available by noon on the day of the meeting.

Banquet in Salem to feature ham, scalloped potatoes

SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building. Next week's sponsor is St. Paul Team Five. The menu offers ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh fruit and vegetables and ice cream sundaes. Additional sponsors are needed. SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1956 will hold its bi-monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. Spouses and friends are welcome.

Salem Area Amateur Radio Association meeting changed

SALEM - The Salem Area Amateur Radio Association's next monthly meeting has been changed from Sept. 5 to Sept. 12 due to a scheduling conflict but will return to its regular schedule of the first Thursday of the month in October. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library. Guests and new members are welcome.

Monthly lupus support group to meet in Damascus

'Chicken drive-by' offered at Leetonia church Sept. 19

LEETONIA - The Leetonia United Methodist Church at 50 Lisbon St. will hold its monthly "chicken drive-by" from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 19, or until sold out. The meal consists of a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $7. Proceeds will be used for the new roof for the church.

Food distribution set at Oasis Food Ministry Sept. 12, 26

COLUMBIANA - The Oasis Food Ministry will distribute food from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 and 26 at the First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St.

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1946 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 24 and Oct. 22 at Adele's Place.

'Quakers for the Cure'

T-shirts offered at games

SALEM - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In support of this cause, the Salem High School sophomore class is selling "Quakers for the Cure" T-shirts. The class is donating $1 for every T-shirt sold, to The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. T-shirts may be purchased at varsity football games during September, or by calling Jennifer Polen at 330-332-2917. Both short and long sleeve T-shirts are available, as well as crew neck and hooded sweatshirts.

Activities offered for dogs, owners at HSCC?ARC

SALEM - Friday Night Football for you and your pet, Walk Nice and Tricks Class, Poochie Playtime and Open Dog Walking are all on the September schedule of events as released by the Humane Society of Columbiana County Animal Resource Complex (HSCC ARC). Open walking takes place from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. For $2 per session, owners can exercise their pet on leash in the 6,000 square foot climate controlled complex on rubber flooring. Three sessions of Poochie Playtime take place beginning at 2:30 on Wednesday for small dogs under 30 pounds and two sessions beginning at 5 p.m. for big dogs. Cost for Poochie Playtime is $5 per hour. Senior dog playtime is offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday for dogs over 7 years. Proof of vaccinations, rabies and spay/neuter must be provided with no exceptions.

A dog training fundraising raffle is under way for a $50 training certificate by The Learning Dog and Enrichment Center, Training Treats and Interactive Toys. Chances are $1 each or six for $5. The winner will be drawn at the close of the Columbiana Street Fair on Saturday where HSCC will participate in the commercial tent.

ARC is located at 721 E. Pidgeon Road (state Route 45 bypass) in Salem and specializes in dog exercise and training, pet care education, interactive toys and pet resource information and is operated by the HSCC. Reservations for private pet parties and events are now being accepted. Additional activities are scheduled weekly. Community Center to host diabetic preventative program

SALEM -The Salem Community Center will be hosting FIT IDEAS (Fighting Inactivity Through Improving Diet, Awareness and Support). This pre-diabetic and diabetic preventative program will cover the following topics: calorie education, portion size, carbohydrate counting, effect of food on blood glucose levels, diabetic meal preparation, exercise choices and how exercise effects blood glucose levels. This three week program will be held on Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8 and 15 at the Salem Community Center. This program is sponsored by Dreamfields Pasta, Salem Community Hospital and Insulindependence.
