Final ghost walk will be held Saturday at the Spread Eagle

HANOVERTON - Hanoverton's last ghost walk of the 2013 season begins at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the Spread Eagle Tavern.

This tour includes a trip to the cemetery. Cost is $6 for adults and children over 12. For information and reservations call 330-223-1583.

The meal, sponsored by Friends of the Banquet, includes sloppy joes, macaroni salad, potato chips, baked beans, fresh fruit and vegetables, and ice cream sundaes. Additional sponsors are needed.

food drive on Monday

NORTH LIMA - Sheely's Furniture and Appliance at 11450 South Ave. is helping feed hungry families in the Mahoning Valley on Labor Day.

Anyone who drops off a donation of non-perishable food items will receive a $100 coupon to be used that day on a purchase of $1,000 or more.

"We are grateful to Sheely's for their continued support of the food bank through this annual food drive to help feed our hungry friends and neighbors," said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank. "We are filling more than 15,000 requests for emergency food assistance each week in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, and every can of food makes a difference."

Patriots Day Bike Nite

will be held Sept. 5

AUSTINTOWN - Quaker Steak & Lube will host its seventh annual Patriots Day Bike Nite at 5 p.m. Sept. 5.

The event will pay tribute to our men and women in uniform and honor both past and present armed forces members.

Among those being honored will be all military, safety forces and veterans including veterans from World War II, Pearl Harbor, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

During the ceremony The Lube will specifically honor WWII veterans: Paul Sovick Staff SGT U.S.M.C., Frank De Censo SGT U.S. Army and Leo Kruise U.S.M.C. Air Wing. Korean War veterans Zeno Foley U.S. Army and Ray Ornelas Corporal U.S.M.C. Vietnam veterans Robert Bush U.S.M.C., Carl A. Nunziato Major U.S. Army and Dan Mattozi Army. Iraq, Afghanistan, Desert Storm, Beirut veterans Sue E. Skrzynski SGT First Class U.S. Army, John Watson Staff SGT National Guard and Edward A. Johnston Corporal U.S.M.C. Finally, from the Austintown Police Department Keith Smith U.S. Army and Fire Chief Don Jordan will be honored.

Mike Case from WFMJ will be the guest master of ceremonies There will be military displays and vehicles onsite, including a 911 fire truck, pumper engine 293. A skydiver will drop into the event at 7 p.m.

Eleven year-old Cortney Mackay will sing a few patriotic numbers and the invocation led by Chaplain Dale Baringer Marine Corps League 494 and a Vietnam veteran U.S. Army. Also, all members in uniform will receive 20 percent off their meals while those with a Military ID will receive 10 percent off.

COLUMBIANA - Parkside Health Care Center's second annual Classic Car Cruise-in, hosted by the Arby's Cruisin' Crew, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at 930 E. Park Ave.The event features a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and dash plaques. The rain date is Sept. 19.

There is a $3 entry fee. All proceeds will benefit the Parkside Health Care Center Activity Fund, Boy Scout Pack #16, and the Salem Community Pantry. Pack #16 will have concessions available for purchase.

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host a business breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at Das Dutch Haus.

The event topic is "Healthcare Reform for Small Business."

Information will be provided by DC Wellness owners Bob Gearhart Sr. and Jr. Wellness is a third generation health insurance brokerage firm with offices in Westlake and Columbiana.

They have worked with many area employers and most recently developed a program to guide small employers through key compliance and decision milestones brought on by healthcare reform.

registering for storytime

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Public Library is now registering children for the storytimes for ages 6 months to 5 years.

Babytime is a lapsit program offered for ages 6 to 18 months and their caregiver. Sessions are offered once a month on the third Tuesday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 17.

Toddlertime is a lapsit program which begin Sept. 5 and will be held weekly on Thursdays from 10 to 10:30 and 11 to 11:30 a.m. for toddlers ages 18 months up to 3 years and their caregivers.

Storytime will be held weekly on Wednesdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. or Thursdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 and begin Sept. 4.

All classes include age appropriate stories, finger plays, and crafts for the older children, and are free to the public. Preregistration is required at the library or by calling 330-482-5509.

SALEM - The Stretch and Dave Bike Show featuring bike games, raffles and food, opens at 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Heritage Inn, 333 W. Fourth St.

The bike show begins at 6 p.m. with six categories.

Trophies will be awarded for best of show, peoples choice judging, stock and custom. Cost is $10 per person.

Kids Day planned Sept. 28

LEETONIA - The Leetonia Sportsman's Club will hold its 38th annual Kids Day on Sept. 28 at the club grounds along East High Street in Leetonia.

There will be shooting, archery and fishing events for all children ages 6 to 15.

Trophies will be awarded to contest winners and raffle prizes will be given away. A wiener roast will also be held. Everything is free of charge.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. and runs continuously throughout the day.

Kids Day is held annually in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day.
