BELOIT- The West Branch Local School District is announcing opening and closing times for all buildings for the 2013-2014 school year.
Classes for students in grades kindergarten through 12 will open on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Classes at West Branch High School and Middle School will begin at 7:35 a.m. and end at 2:42 p.m. Classes at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center begin at 8:03 a.m. and dismiss at 2:30 p.m. Elementary classes at Damascus and Knox begin at 9 a.m. with dismissal at 3:30 p.m. Elementary students may arrive between 8:45 and 9 a.m. Students who arrive after 9 a.m. are tardy for the day. Any elementary students eating breakfast may arrive and go to the cafeteria at 8:40 a.m.
Registration and scheduling for pupils new to the system will continue at the Superintendent's Office through Thursday. New pupils must bring a copy of their birth certificate, social security card, immunization record, proof of residency and, if applicable, papers verifying child custody. No students will be registered from Friday through the opening day of classes. Registration will resume on Thursday, Sept. 5.
Bus schedules and routes will be the same as last year. Fifth-grade students will be given bus information at the open house on Tuesday. Students should be at their bus stops at least five to seven minutes earlier than their scheduled time at the end of last school year. High school/middle school routes will begin at approximately 6:30 a.m. with arrival at 7:20 a.m. Career Center students will be picked up on regular high school routes and will then be transported by their assigned buses (Buses 25 and 39) to the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, which will leave the high school south parking lot at approximately 7:22 a.m. Bus routes for grades K-4 will begin at approximately 7:50 a.m. with arrival at the elementary buildings at 8:40 a.m.
Applications for free and reduced price lunches will be distributed with the opening of school. Applications are also available on the district's website (www.westbranch.k12.oh.us). Existing applications for returning students will be used until the new applications are reviewed. Cafeteria prices for this year are $2 for grades kindergarten through fourth and $2.25 for grades fifth through 12th. Milk is 35 cents per carton. Reduced price lunches are 40 cents. Breakfast is also available at all schools. Breakfast is 75 cents, with the reduced breakfast for 30 cents.
School fees will be $15 for Kindergarten through grade 4 and $20 for grades 5 through 12. A letter regarding payment of fees will be sent home with each student at the beginning of school.
