South Range tunnel work

August 23, 2013
Salem News

Construction worker Jody Sawhill of Craig Susany Construction of Columbiana walks through the tunnel under state Route 46 that connects the athletic facilities to the South Range K-12 campus. The road, which has been closed to traffic in this area for 15 days, is scheduled to reopen this evening barring any unforeseen weather or environmental events. The tunnel that arrived on site in 11 sections plus the entrance wings was constructed and sealed and now lays under the state road. Specifications required it to be large enough to drive an ambulance safely through it. Storm sewers flank the pathway leading from the school to the tunnel and out to the fields for drainage control.
