Salem Junior Mothers present donation to House of Prayer

July 28, 2013
Salem News

Pam Gerace, left, representing the Salem Junior Mother's Club, presents a $200 donation to Alma Johnson for the House of Prayer Prison Ministries, 524 First Ave., East Liverpool. Women housed at the Eastern Ohio Correction Facility for addiction offenses who meet the criteria may participate in the "Read with Me" program sponsored in collaboration with the EOCF and the prison ministry. Mothers have the option to be videotaped while reading a children's book of their choice. Once the video is made, the video and the book are sent to the children of the participant. Johnson states that many of these mothers do not have custody of their children and that this program allows them to begin to take responsibility for their previous actions and to become accountable to the EOCF. "Some mothers even choose to speak from the heart to their children and their respective caregivers," said Johnson. This church ministry meets bi-monthly where the participants not only are voluntarily videotaped, but offered Bible study groups and group discussions with recovering addicts. For more information contact Johnson at 330-386-5803. (Submitted photo)
