SALEM - Salem Senior Citizens' board meeting begins at 11 a.m. today. After lunch, the regular meeting follows with a memorial service for deceased members. All guests are welcome.
Salem Library to join Big
Back Yard for Treasure Night
SALEM - The First Presbyterian Church's Big Back Yard program will partner with the Salem Public Library for Treasure Night from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Library staff will lead activities about finding treasure. Adults and youth are encouraged to bring artistic treasures that they have created to vie for the People's Choice Awards. This event is free and open to the public, rain or shine. Refreshments are provided.

Salem VFW kitchen to be open Saturday night
SALEM - The kitchen will be open from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892, 496 Arch St. The Saturday special is barbecue pulled pork, cole slaw, fries and cookies for $6. Midnight Car Cruise set at Columbiana Pizza Hut
COLUMBIANA - The Kool Time Kruisers will host the second annual Midnight Car Cruise to Drive Out Hunger at 9 p.m. Saturday at Pizza Hut in the Oakmont Plaza (rain or shine). The entry fee for cars is $5 or five non-perishable food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Admission to the show is free to the public, but spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items. For more information on the cruise contact Steve Zimmerman at 330-424-9503.
"This will be our second late-night cruise to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Because it starts at 9 p.m., car enthusiasts from the entire community are able to join the fun after their afternoon shows," said Zimmerman. "Last year's event was a huge success, raising $1,000 and collecting more than 200 pounds of food to help feed our hungry friends and neighbors," he said. For every $1 given, the food bank is able to distribute $15 worth of food in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Blood drive planned
at Alliance Hospital Aug. 8
ALLIANCE - Alliance Community Hospital will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 8 in conference room 1-A.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh no less than 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID or their Red Cross donor card is required at registration. Donors are encouraged to drink additional fluids at least 24 hours prior to the drive and eat a meal before donating.

Mahoning Green Team plans compost seminar Aug. 11
CANFIELD - The Green Team is conducting a composting educational seminar at 1 p.m. Aug. 11 in Classroom A at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on state Route 46. Cost is $10 for Mahoning County residents and $40 for non-residents. The seminar will include a one-hour training session with video instruction and open discussion. Participants will receive a backyard compost bin, instructional booklet and trouble-shooting guide. Pre-registration is required by Aug. 5 by calling 330-740-2060.
Leetonia Library's Monday blood drive time changed
LEETONIA- The time of the Red Cross Blood Drive at the Leetonia Community Public Library on Monday has changed. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Room.
