Jack L. Cope

EAST PALESTINE - Jack L. Cope, 72, of Neeld Road, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 23, 1940 in Rogers, a son of the late Berthol and Veda Tullis Cope, and was a lifelong resident of the Rogers and East Palestine areas. Prior to his retirement several years ago he had been employed with various coal mining companies including East Fairfield, Ferris, and Ralph Veon Coal Companies, to name a few.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.

Jack is survived by his wife, the former Sorelle Mahon, whom he married Dec. 29, 1962; and two sons, Tim (Carol) Cope and Mike (Carrie) Cope, both of East Palestine. He also leaves a brother, Jim Cope, and a sister, JoAnn Whitacre; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark McTrustry of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
