Local AMVETS honored at state meeting

CINCINNATI-Local AMVETS members were awarded for veteran service and community work at the annual state convention from June 22 to 24 in Cincinnati, hosted by AMVETS Department of Ohio and its subsidiaries. AMVETS Post 44 Commander Jan C. Brown of Boardman was chosen all state commander for her work at the new post home in Struthers. AMVETS Post 44 was awarded the Ohio State Community Service Award for its work supporting local veterans as well as working with many community organizations at the banquet held at the Millennium & Copthorne Hotel in downtown Cincinnati.

Connie Schaffer of Columbiana, a nurse at the Youngstown VA Clinic, was chosen nurse of the year by Sad Sacks for her work with local veterans and for helping form a womens veterans program. Paul Speigle of Salem, member of Sons of AMVETS Post 45, was elected commander of the Sons of AMVETS for 2013-14. John P. Brown III, past national commander, was elected to the State Finance Committee.
