Work on Rt. 45 planned

State Route 45 just north of Hammond School Road in Madison Township will remain closed until at least Aug. 1 while a culvert washed-out by last week's flash flooding is repaired, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Motorists are being told to detour by way of state Route 7 to U.S. Route 30 and vice versa.

Quilt group meets in Canfield

CANFIELD - That Quilt Group I Belong To will meet at 7 p.m. today at Fair Park. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The speaker is Anita Shackelford, an internationally recognized instructor specializing in hand-applique and fine-hand quilting. Non-guild members who would like to attend will be charged $5 to hear the lecture. That Quilt Group I Belong To is open to all interested quilters at all skill levels. EP school board to meet

EAST PALESTINE - East Palestine City School District Board of Education plans to meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the elementary media center.

Chicken dinner offered

LEETONIA The public is invited to a "drive-by" chicken dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, or until sold out, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, 50 Lisbon St. Cost is $7. The meals includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie.

Amateur Radio meeting set

LISBON - The Lisbon Area Amateur Radio Association's monthly meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency.

Fish fry planned at Legion

COLUMBIANA - An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at American Legion Post 290. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children.

Lawn festival set Saturday

CANFIELD - The public is invited to a lawn festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at Paradise United Church of Christ, 10020 New Buffalo Road. There will be food, raffle baskets, a country store, bake sale and games.

Lions 5-K run, walk planned

SALEM - Salem Lions Club is sponsoring its annual 5-K run and one-mile walk on Saturday at Waterworth Memorial Park in Pavilion 8. The walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and the runners start at 9:15 a.m.

There will be a Chinese auction with prizes from the National Packard Museum (four tickets), Mahoning Valley Scrappers (four tickets), Pro Football Hall of Fame (two tickets), two wills from Attorney Bruce Williams' office, Youngstown State University football (four tickets) and YSU basketball (four tickets), bucket of car wash supplies from Auto Zone, Pittsburgh Steelers autographed picture of Troy Polamahu, Youngstown Phantoms Hockey (four tickets), Akron Aeros baseball (two tickets, Cleveland Indians baseball (two tickets), Cleveland Browns autographed photo of #66 Shawn Lauvao, Salem Community Center (one-day pass), and Cleveland Cavaliers autographed baseball hat.

3D shoots set Wednesday

WASHINGTONVILLE - The Beaver Creek Sportsman's Club is holding 15 target 3D shoots on Thursday evenings through Sept. 5. Registration is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5.

Eagles plan benefit dinner

SALEM - Salem Eagles will sponsor a benefit pasta dinner in honor of Jo-Ann Plegge on July 27 at the club. The public is welcome from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children. There will be a disc jockey and Chinese auction.

Other events at the club include a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Music will be provided by Manhattan. The kitchen will be open from 8 to 10 p.m.

The women's meeting and joint officers meeting begins at 7 p.m. July 22.

OSU?Alumni picnic planned

COLUMBIANA - The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Columbiana County is hosting a family picnic at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 in pavilion four at Firestone Park. All incoming OSU freshmen and their parents have been invited as is all students, alumni, family and friends of OSU. All OSU students present at the picnic will be entered into a $500 scholarship drawing.

The club will provide all table service, food and beverages. There is a $5 donation at the door from all non-student adults to help defray costs. Reservations may be made by contacting Richard Zitto at rjzitto@sbcglobal.net or 330-550-3652.
