EAST PALESTINE - Brian Brinegar was installed as the East Palestine Lions Club 2013-14 president by District 13-D Gov. John Woodside of Canton when the club met recently at the library. Woodside also installed Chris Brinegar as vice president; Tamra Hess, treasurer; outgoing president Cindy Fletcher and Margo Zuch, two-year directors; Jim Williams, membership chairman; and Gene Pasco as lion tamer/tail twister.
Fletcher introduced Woodside who is a member of the Jackson Township Lions Club. She told the group Woodside has been a Lion for 48 years and has been recognized for perfect attendance all those years. She said he has served in several official capacities as a Lion and has been the recipient of numerous Lions awards including a Melvin E. Jones Fellowship Award, a Fellowship Progressive Award, an OLERF Visionary Award, and an International Presidents Leadership Award. Woodside talked briefly about Lionism and the ongoing fund-raising effort for the Melvin Jones Eye Foundation. He also accepted a $50 donation to the foundation from the East Palestine Lions Club.
Hess gave the treasurer's report. Reports were given on the fund-raising quilt raffle which brought in $520 and the yard sale which raised an additional $88. Under new business, the club voted to approve a letter Hess had created to inform members of their annual dues and to urge their continued support by being an active club members. The group also voted to assist the East Palestine Chamber of Commerce with its Toys for Tots car show on Aug. 17. Other announcements included an invitation to attend an upcoming steak fry set in Darlington by the Little Beaver Lions Club and a trip to the Rising Star Casino July 15-16 sponsored by the West Point Lions Club.

Guests at the meeting were Don and Ruby Heldman from the Wellsville Lions Club and club sponsor Don Johnson from the New Waterford Lions Club. The next meeting begins at noon July 10 at Bojangles restaurant.
