SALEM - Ernestine Faye Mercer, 85, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Sterling House of Salem where she had resided since 1997.
She was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Fairmount, W.Va., daughter of the late Wallace A. and Lela M. (Phillips) Matthews.
Mrs. Mercer was a beautician instructor at the East Liverpool School of Cosmetology and had previously managed the House of Beauty Salon in Lisbon. She had served as vice president and treasurer for the Beautician's Association State of Ohio. Mrs. Mercer was also a volunteer and then later employed at the Tobin Center as a staff supervisor.
She was Methodist by faith and a graduate of Marlington High School class of 1947.
Her husband of 36 years, Paul V. Mercer, preceded her in death on June 29, 1998.
She is survived by a son, David Honeywell and wife Vickie of Salem; a daughter, Rita Dean and husband Ralph of Bremen, Ohio; a stepson, Rick Mercer and wife Melody of Winona; two sisters, Chloe Steltz of Lordstown and Dorothy Phillips of Cleveland; a brother, Milo C. Matthews of Alliance; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Greg Pennington officiating.
