East Palestine BOE to meet Monday

EAST PALESTINE - East Palestine City School District Board of Education plans to meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the elementary school's media center.

DAHS 1946-47 to meet for lunch

LISBON The David Anderson High School classes of 1946 and 1947 are invited to lunch at 11:30 a.m. July 5 at the Taste of Country restaurant.

Mill Creek MetroParks board meeting reset

YOUNGSTOWN - The Mill Creek MetroParks board meeting scheduled for July 8 has been rescheduled to 6 p.m. July 15 at Fellows Riverside Gardens, Davis Center.

Smoking cessation program offered

ALLIANCE - Alliance Community Hospital will offer "Fresh Start" - a free, four-week smoking cessation program held in conference room 3-A of the hospital. The program is open to the public and will take place on four consecutive Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. from July 11 to Aug. 1. Cessation patches are not being offered as part of the program.

For more information or to register for the Smoking Cessation class contact the Tobacco Cessation Department at ACH at 330-596-7125. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.

New Waterford fishing tournament set

NEW WATERFORD - New Waterford's annual fishing tournament for children up to age 16 is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. July 6 at New Waterford Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Over $500 in prizes will be awarded in three age divisions: 5 and under, 6 to 10 and 11 to 16. Free hot dogs and pop will be available to everyone.

Negley Masons offer spaghetti dinner

NEGLEY - An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. July 13 at Negley Masonic Lodge, 50873 Richardson Ave. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Carryout orders are available.

Back-to-School Clothing Sign-Ups set

SALEM - Church Women United of Salem is announcing the dates for its annual Back-to-School Clothing Sign-Ups at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Education Building, 251 S. Broadway Ave.

Sign-ups will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. July 24 and 25; from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m. July 26; and from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. July 31. No childcare is provided during sign-ups.

The clothing giveaway is open to children of low-income families in the Salem School District only who are entering Headstart through eighth grade.

Parents (or guardians) must bring two proofs of income and residency, the child's name, age, birth date and school grade.

Gen. Morgan's surrender marked

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Friends of Beaver Creek State Park in Columbiana County will honor the tree under which Confederate General John Hunt Morgan surrendered 150 years ago near West Point.

The 8-foot high, 1,000 pound tree trunk is what remains of the tree that was rescued several years ago and now stands in the upper level museum of Gaston's Mill at Beaver Creek State Park.

The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 27 and 28. For more information call 330-382-9227.

Hopewell Road lecture set at library

COLUMBIANA - Bradley T. Lepper will present "The Great Hopewell Road: Ohio's Ancient Superhighway" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 16 in the Salchow Room at the Columbiana Public Library. Registration is required in person by by calling the library at 330-482-5509.
