LEETONIA- The school board Thursday night approved a change in elementary administration.
The board accepted the resignation of Melissa Brock as elementary principal and special education coordinator, effective July 31, and hired Ed Ridgeway to the position on a two-year contract. Brock has been granted a continuing contract as an elementary teacher.
Ridgeway has 32 years of experience in education, including the past 12 in the United Local administration. Prior to his hire at Leetonia, he was entering the second year of a retire-rehire contract as the assistant elementary principal at United. His contract is for $64,000 both years with no benefits.
Schools Superintendent Rob Mehno said following the meeting that since Ridgeway was approved as retire-rehire employee with United, a public hearing is not needed at Leetonia.
Mehno also noted that Ridgeway has experience with the elementary's guided reading and math programs, as well as knowledge of new state testing and credentials to conduct teacher evaluations.
"We're excited to have Ed," Mehno said. "He brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and administrator, and has a very high level of integrity and character, as well as being a big proponent of our schools."
In other business the board hired Amanda Clark as a substitute library aide, Sean Knight as a substitute teacher, Ruth Cerrone as a substitute secretary; and approved Rose Barkett as a volunteer assistant for varsity and junior varsity cheerleading and Ed Ridgeway as a volunteer varsity football assistant coach.

Also at the meeting the board approved the contract with Ripcho Studio Inc. of Cleveland for school photographs for school years 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017; and acknowledged Sharon Walters and Barb Hendricks will be replaced on the Leetonia Community Public Library Board of Trustees by Tiffany Davis and Marcia Duko.
