COLUMBIANA - Crestview Schools are planning to get a new parking lot seal coating soon. The board approved an award for a contract with Arrow Surface Engineering out of Youngstown Wednesday.
"We would like to put together a contract as soon as possible," said board member David Vollnogle.
Arrow placed a bid for $18,569.53 and was chosen out of the five companies that placed bids.
The board said the bids were lower than anticipated and they planned to cover the parking lots around the school, noting the lot in front of Superintendent John Dilling's office and the lots across the street would not be coated.
The football field lot was not planned to be coated, however, since the bids were so low, Vollnogle said there was a possibility of looking into coating the football field lot. Vollnogle said the board has had previous experience with Arrow and has been satisfied with its work.
In other business, the board approved a resolution for Shelby Gwin, a former custodian.
Gwin was granted a family medical leave of absence from June 22, 2012 to June 22, 2013, but has not returned to work. The board noted she has also moved out of the area.
Since the leave has now expired, the board resolved that any request for a continuance of her leave is denied, and since she has not returned after the expiration of her leave, she has abandoned her employment and is no longer an employee.
The board said they needed to "take action" in a timely manner so the position can be filled.
The board also approved one-year contracts, pending receipt of all required reports, to the following teachers: Michael Cunningham, CHS social studies and Library teacher; Laura Nappi, CHS math teacher; Caitlin Reash, first grade teacher; Kristen Miller, fourth grade teacher; and Eric Bable, CMS music teacher.
Also approved were a 2013-2014 supplemental contract resignation of Katherine Bennett, CHS multimedia director, and the resignation of Michael Fay, CES music teacher.
The next board meeting for Crestview will be 7 p.m. Monday, July 15 at the Performing Arts building.
