Pretrial set for alleged SCH gunman

June 27, 2013
Staff Reports , Salem News

LISBON - A June 27 pretrial was set in Columbiana County Municipal Court for a Salem man who allegedly caused a panic among employees at the Salem Community Hospital by claiming to have a gun.

Ryan M. Thompson, 31, last known address Jennings Avenue, is charged with theft and inducing panic.

Court documents alleged that on Monday Thompson went into the Salem Community Hospital cafeteria after the lunch period was over, selecting food and drink items. A hospital employee told Thompson the cafeteria was closed and he claimed he needed free food, picked up food and drink items valued at $7.35 and consumed them.

When confronted by hospital employees, Thompson also claimed to be armed with a gun. That statement led to the cafeteria being secured by the security officers until police responded. When he was frisked, he was found to have Pop Tarts from the cafeteria in his back pocket.

No gun was located.
