SALEM - The cause of a fire which consumed a detached garage on Jennings Avenue early Thursday morning was undetermined.
Damages were estimated at $20,000 for the structure and $10,000 for the contents. The Salem Fire Department was called at 2:03 a.m. to respond to 612 Jennings Ave., the property of Edward Holbrook, for a fully-involved fire.
The remainder of the department was called to the scene and the fire was knocked down, with no extension to any other structures and slight damage to an above-ground swimming pool. Due to the major damage to the garage, the hot spots could only be extinguished from outside the building.
The report said no cause for the fire was found. No vehicles were inside the two-story, 700-square-foot building.
While firefighters were still on the scene, another call came at 3:21 a.m. for a possible electrical fire at Dunkin' Donuts at 855 W. State St., with some firefighters leaving for the new call.
A slight haze of smoke was seen on arrival and firefighters found there was an internal electrical problem in an oven. The power to the oven was disconnected and it was removed from the building.
Firefighters remained on the scene on Jennings Avenue until 3:57 a.m.
