Guilford Lake fish fry

GUILFORD LAKE - An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Club on Route 172 at Hanna Drive.

AMVETS?45 dance

SALEM - A dance will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave. Music will be provided by Catch 22. There is no cover charge.

HANOVERTON - United Local High School Class of 1961 will meet for lunch at 1 p.m. June 18 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

LISBON - Board members of the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center will meet at 7 p.m. June 18 in the media center.

LEETONIA - Leetonia High School Classes of 1955-57 are invited to lunch at noon June 19 at Paul's Cafe in Columbiana.

LEETONIA - Leetonia High School Class of 1962 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. June 21 at the Skyline Diner in Salem.

Beaver Twp. Crime Watch

NORTH LIMA - Beaver Township Police Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. June 25 at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road. This month's guest speaker is Beaver Township Police Officer Chris Albert and Hero, his new K-9 partner. Albert will discuss the K-9 program and do a demonstration. Local crime statistics will also be discussed.

OSUE-CC canning classes

LISBON - The Ohio State University Extension office in Columbiana County will again be offering pressure gauge testing for pressure canners.

Kate Schumacher from Ohio State University Extension in Holmes County will conduct the testing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23 in the conference room on the second floor at 7989 Dickey Drive.

Bring only your pressure lid and gauge. Cost is $5 per lid. Checks may be made payable to OSUE Holmes County. For more information call the extension office at 330-424-7291.

SPL?lawn care program

SALEM - Salem Public Library is hosting an informative program titled "Introduction to Conventional and Organic Lawn Care," presented by Jason Baker, master gardener with the Ohio State University Extension, at 6:30 p.m. July 1 in the Quaker Room at 821 E. State St. The presentation will include information about going organic, recommended grasses, lawn maintenance, and the "Big Four" lawn insects in Ohio.

Baker has been gardening for more than 25 years. This is his second year as master gardener with the Ohio State University Extension. His gardening passion is hot peppers.

Registration is required in person or by calling the library at 330-332-0042.

SPL craft classes

SALEM - Adult attendees at the Salem Public Library's Getting Crafty class on July 8 will recycle cigar boxes and a variety of craft materials to create a new and fun use for each box. All materials are provided. The class is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the library's Quaker Room, free of cost. Registration is required in person at the library or by calling 330-332-0042 (

BELOIT- The West Branch Local school board will meet in special session at 8 a.m. Saturday in the high school Media Center to consider employment of a public employee and routine personnel matters.

WB?alumni ticket sale

BELOIT- The West Branch Alumni Association will be selling Rockin' Reunion tickets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at West Branch High School Main Lobby. Tickets are $10 each. Cash or check only will be accepted.

Diabetes exercise classes

SALEM - Throughout the summer, people living with diabetes will have an opportunity to exercise during a series of free community events sponsored by North East Ohio Insulindependence.

These events, called Dawn Phenom, will give participants the opportunity to be involved in walking, running or biking along trails at the Waterworth Memorial Park in Salem or the Mill Creek Metropark Farm in Canfield.

Scheduled dates and locations are as follows, with each event beginning at 6 p.m. June 25, July 23 and Aug. 27: Mill Creek Metropark Farm; July 10, Aug. 14: Waterworth Memorial Park.

The program is open to anyone of any fitness level, who is living with type 1 or 2 diabetes, and is designed to help participants get fit or stay fit and give them an opportunity to socialize with and learn from others.

Dawn Phenom events are organized by Insulindependence, which is a group of athletes living with diabetes, who are on a mission to get other people living with diabetes more active. Insulindependence supports dozens of volunteer-led chapters throughout the U.S. The group's mission is about getting people with diabetes together and encouraging them to get and stay fit through activity and exercise.
