Friends of Beaver Creek State Park Pioneer Village to meet

Salem Area Amateur Radio Association meeting set

SALEM - The Salem Area Amateur Radio Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Salem Public Library's Quaker Room. Subjects for discussion are field day, entry level amateur radio classes and equipment storage. Guests and new members are welcome.

Book sale, silent auction planned at EP?library

EAST PALESTINE - The Friends of the East Palestine Memorial Public Library will hold a book sale and silent auction from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 6 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 and 8 in the library's basement. All proceeds will benefit the library.

There is a large assortment of hardback and paperback books, records, videos, puzzles, games, magazines, cassettes, books on tape, VHS and DVDs.

American Red Cross Swim Lesson program planned

SALEM - The Salem Community Center will host another session of the American Red Cross Swim Lesson program beginning June 10 and running Monday through Thursday to June 20. Six Learn to Swim levels are available, along with a Mommy and Me level for infants and their parent. Cost is $70 for non-members and $55 for members. A multiple child discount is available. Canfield Community Concert Band plans summer concerts

CANFIELD - The Canfield Community Concert Band, under the direction of Brian Harris, will present a series of free outdoor summer concerts in June throughout the area.

Upcoming concerts will take place at 7 p.m. June 11 at Shepherd of the Valley on Western Reserve Road; at 7 p.m. June 17 at the Canfield Village Green; at 7:30 p.m. June 28 at the Poland Village Hall Park; and 6 p.m. June 30 at Buhl Park in Sharon, Pa.

The band will entertain audiences with a variety of popular songs and marches presenting contemporary American styles and celebrating American composers and patriotic themes. The program will include "John Williams in Concert," a medley of movie themes by John Williams, the beloved hymn "Amazing Grace," arranged by Frank Ticheli, and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A." Fillmore's "Americans We" and Sousa's "Semper Fidelis" and "Sabre and Spurs" will also be performed. The "Armed Forces Salute" will round out the program as the band pays tribute to veterans as well as current members of the Armed Forces. America's march, "The Stars and Stripes Forever" will conclude the program.

Founded in 1976, the Canfield Community Concert Band is a group of 50 volunteers who bring musical entertainment to area residents. For more information about the band and upcoming concerts go to

Banquet in Salem to feature smoked sausage, sauerkraut

SALEM The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building. Next week's sponsor is the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The menu offers tomato soup, smoked sausage and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruit, and brownies. Additional sponsors are needed. Armstrong Street Scene

Car and Bike Show planned

BOARDMAN - The Armstrong Street Scene Car and Custom Bike Show is set from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Shepherd Self Storage, 7469 South Ave. Registration takes place from 9 a.m. until noon. Registration fee is $10 per car/bike. Spectator admission is free. Everyone who donates a non-perishable food item will receive a free raffle ticket.

In partnership with Breaking Bread, Armstrong's ongoing initiative to feed the hungry in the community, all food and monetary proceeds from the show will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

The show will feature the 1965 Mustang "Batcar," a vintage race car with a 427 Ford hemi engine, courtesy of Don Synder. Custom motorcycles by DZ Kustoms and custom vehicles by #1 Performance Center will also be on display. Monster Truck Bad Habit will round out the exhibition.

Up for grabs are 14 trophies, plus goodie bags, dash plaques, customized photo and door prize ticket to the first 200 registrants.

Westville Lakes 'Sea of Lights' catfish tournament scheduled

BELOIT - The public is invited to Westville Lakes "Sea of Lights" catfish tournament from 6 p.m. to midnight June 29 at Westville Lakes, 382 Case Road. The entry fee is $10 for adults and $5 for 15 and under.

There is a special youth tournament for ages 15 and under and a smallest catfish tournament ($2 additional entry fee).
