Annual tea, garden tours planned
COLUMBIANA The Columbiana Women's Club at 121 N. Main St. will host it annual Alice in Wonderland Tea and Garden Tour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Friday and Saturday. The four participating gardens are the Myers Perennial at 24 N.Vine, Perkins Forest Haven at 123 Stanton, the Amendolora Vegetable at 463 Terra Verde, and the Almasy Woodland Gardens at 1719 McCloskey Road. Tea will be served at the clubhouse.
Tickets are $15 and available prior to the event at Vivian's and the Next-to-New Shop, and at the clubhouse and gardens on the days of the event.
Fun fly set Thursday at Shaker Woods
COLUMBIANA - The Mahoning County Model Club is having a fun fly at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shaker Woods on County Line Road, 1/4 mile west of state Route 7. A variety of aircraft, from small foam electric planes and helicopters to 1/2 scale gasoline powered aircraft will be flown. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. Mill Creek MetroParks joins GO Day
YOUNGSTOWN - National Get Outdoors Day (GO Day) is a new annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun at sites across the nation. Mill Creek MetroParks is an official GO Day 2013 site. On June 8, the MetroParks will offer discounts on recreation activities at Wick Recreation Area and at both Lake Glacier and Lake Newport Boathouses from noon to 6 p.m. Visit the welcome tent at Wick Recreation Area, 1861 McCollum Road, to pick up coupons the day of the event. Coupons will also be available at Lake Glacier and Lake Newport Boathouses on June 8. Discounts are: a free half-hour pedal boat rental, half off one hour kayak rental, free batting cage tokens, and nine holes for $1 at Par 3 golf course. Coupon includes entry instructions for the Mill Creek MetroParks Recreation Sweepstakes, a three-month pass good for four recreation activities per month.
Knox One Room School Reunion set
ALLIANCE -The annual Knox Township One Room School Reunion begins at 1 p.m. June 9 at Knox Elementary School, 2900 Knox School Road. Attendees are asked to park in the rear of the building, on the south side of the school.
Guests are asked to bring table service and a casserole. Beverages will be provided. Photo albums will be on display, and any new photos will be accepted, with students' names attached. All former students and community members are invited to attend.
The one-room buildings included Bridgewater, Courageville, Frog Pond, North Georgetown, Homeworth, Mile Branch, Mill, Oak Ridge, Prospect Hill, Science Hill, or Greasy Ridge, Sunny Hill, and Union Grove.
Camp Fire taking camp reservations
EAST LIVERPOOL - Camp Fire is accepting reservations for camp dates. Youth do not need to be a member of Camp Fire to attend.
The camps include: Camp Fire Camp Taoka, 12385 Echo Dell Road, East Liverpool, June 10-13, Explorer's Day Camp for youth entering kindergarten, first or second grades, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $60; June 17, Tiny Tot Explorer Day Camp for 3 to 5 year olds and children must be accompanied by an adult, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., $18; June 24-27, Monster Day Camp for youth entering second, third, fourth or fifth grade, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $60; July 9-11, Resident Camp for children entering fourth, fifth or sixth grade, $90; July 15-18, Resident Camp for children entering fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth grade, $125; July 23-26, Day Camp for youth entering first, second or third grade, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $60; and at Camp Fire Camp Tayanita, 35129 Hull Road, Salineville, June 21, for children entering second, third, fourth or fifth grade, $17. Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk planned
SALEM - Salem Community Hospital's (SCH) teen volunteers are partnering with the SCH Charitable Foundation and Salem Community Center (SCC) to sponsor the third annual Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. June 22. Event proceeds will benefit the SCH Charitable Foundation's cancer prevention activities and the SCC's STOMP children's fitness program.
The 5K course will begin at the SCC and continue through adjacent Waterworth Memorial Park. The registration fee is $20. Participants who register before June 14 will receive a free T-shirt. The cost to register on race day is $25. Runners and walkers should report to the SCC's auxiliary gym to check in on the day of the event, beginning at 8 a.m.

Adult Diabetic Support Group to meet
SALEM - The Salem Community Hospital Adult Diabetic Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. June 13 in the hospital's second floor classrooms. Guest speaker Janet Moore, MT(ASCP), SCH medical librarian, will discuss evaluating health information on the internet. Meetings are free and open to people with diabetes, and their family members.
