CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield Chapel, for Nellie Mae Mountz, 88, of Woodlands Assisted Living, Poland, formerly of Canfield, who died Saturday afternoon at her residence.
Nellie was born July 9, 1924 in DuBois, Pa., a daughter of the late John Edward and Mabelle Mae Shivly Halowell. She graduated from Struthers High School in 1942 and had worked in administration for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1983.
Nellie was a former member of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA), a member of the AARP #3104, Canfield chapter, the Alumni Association of the A & P Tea Company of Youngstown and Cleveland for 36 years and a member of the retired senior volunteer program.
Her husband, Malvern C. Mountz, whom she married Aug. 17, 1951, died Dec. 18, 1993. She leaves three nephews, James R. Halowell, John Halowell, Terry Halowell; and a niece, Penny Lindsey.
Besides her parents and her husband, Nellie was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Halowell, James W. Halowell, Edward Halowell; and a niece, Diane Halowell Davis.
