'Perennial Plant Exchange' is Saturday

SALEM - A "Perennial Plant Exchange" will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Salem Parks' maintenance building near the duck pond at Waterworth Memorial Park.

SHS Class of 1958 will meet Saturday

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1958 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at Adele's Place. The class is also sponsoring the teen group at the ROC.

Salem VFW's kitchen will be open

SALEM The kitchen at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892 will be open from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday serving a variety of gourmet hot dogs, sloppy joes, etc.

Library holding summer garden party

LEETONIA - Friends of the Leetonia Community Public Library are holding a summer garden party at noon Saturday. Cookies, cupcakes and beverages will be served.

The entrance fee is a plant or shrub to add to the library's landscaping.

Radio Association's meeting is May 16

LISBON - The Lisbon Area Amateur Radio Association's monthly meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. May 16 at the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency, 215 S. Market St. Guests and new members are welcome.

Library celebrating Children's Book Week

COLUMBIANA - Children ages 2 to 5 are invited to the Columbiana Public Library to celebrate Children's Book Week during Storytime from 10 to 10:45 a.m. May 16 which includes stories, finger plays, songs and a craft. Pre-registration is requested at the library or by calling 482-5509.

District wide show, expo is May 16

LISBON - David Anderson Junior Senior High School is sponsoring a district wide show and expo from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 16 in the school auditorium.

Over 20 teachers and their students throughout the district will share what they have discovered about the decade of the 1940s.

Guests will walk through the school to experience various displays, demonstrations and presentations.

Some of the activities include a 1940s museum, toys and inventions, his and her photo opportunity, quilt display, Norman Rockwell and Jackson Pollock exploration, and advertising. The band and choir will entertain with era music.

Leetonia High Class of 1962 will meet

LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School Class of 1962 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. May 17 at the Skyline Diner in Salem.

Benefit dinner planned at EP Elementary

EAST PALESTINE - A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held for Susan McCullough from noon to 6 p.m. May 19 at East Palestine Elementary School. Events include a Chinese, silent and live auction.

Hanoverton Memorial Day program set

HANOVERTON - The Memorial Day program for the Village of Hanoverton begins at 1 p.m. May 19 at Betz Park. The United High School Band will lead the parade.

Arthur Furey will serve as announcer, Mary Ann Prosko will speak, and Caleb Berdine will give the Gettysburg Address. In case of rain, the program will be held at the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church.

American Red Cross program is May 20

LISBON - The American Red Cross is holding a Disaster Action Team meeting and volunteer recruitment program at 6 p.m. May 20 at the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency office, 215 S. Market St. For more information call Barb Slator at 330-312-2258.

Workshop dealing with suicide risk planned

CANFIELD - A workshop focusing on suicide risk and prevention for at-risk youths and young adults will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. May 20 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St.

There is a higher risk of suicidal behavior for youth and young adults who are aging out of foster care and youth who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.

This half-day workshop focuses on working with two at-risk populations and is approved for three CEUs of ethics training for counselors and social workers.

Cost is $20 per person and includes breakfast. Checks are payable to Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc., P.O. Box 46, Youngstown 44501. Registration deadline is May 17. For more information call 330-747-5111.

Concealed carry pistol class scheduled

LISBON - The Columbiana County Fish and Game Club is offering a two-day concealed carry pistol class from 6 to 10 p.m. May 23 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 25 at its indoor range at 45716 Middle Beaver Road.

This class meets the CCW requirements for residents of Ohio and West Virginia. Pre-registration is required by contacting Mike Peshel at 330-853-8122 or mpeshel@comcast.net.

Adult Book Discussion Group will meet

SALEM - Salem Public Library selected "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" by Muriel Barbery for the May 28 Adult Book Discussion Group.

The library offers book discussions for adult readers from 7 to 8 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Books are chosen from a wide range of literary styles and genres. Copies of each selection are available from the library.

LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School Class of 1949 plans to meet for lunch at noon June 5 at Paul's Italian Cafe.

Fish fry served today by Guilford Ruritans

GUILFORD LAKE - An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Club on Route 172 at Hanna Drive.

Women's Club hosting geranium sale

COLUMBIANA - A geranium sale is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Saturday at the Columbiana Women's Club, 121 N. Main St. Cost is $1 each.

Hanoverton, Hanover Twp. cleanup day set

HANOVERTON - Cleanup day will be combined this year for the village of Hanoverton and Hanover Township.

Dumpsters will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hanover Township garage on U.S. Route 30, Kensington.
