Country style breakfast will be served at Concord Presbyterian
SALEM - An all-you-can-eat country-style breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Concord Presbyterian Church on Route 45, north of Salem.
Items available are pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy, eggs, French toast, waffles, fruit cup, juice and coffee. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for 4 years and under.
Salem Community Hospital sponsoring blood drive
SALEM - Salem Community Hospital is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1 in the hospital's second floor classrooms.
Individuals who have not given blood since March 6 are eligible to donate. Appointments may be made by calling the hospital's public relations department at 330-332-7227. Walk-ins will also be accepted.

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1956 will meet for its bi-monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 8 at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. Spouses and friends are welcome.
Program for needy youth to build work history offered
LISBON - The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) enables low income TANF-eligible Columbiana County youth to gain valuable work experience while earning a paycheck to help meet basic needs. Youth may work part time or up to 40 hours a week through this program.
The SYEP offers the opportunity for youth to develop a work history and have a current reference from an employer.
SYEP will operate in Columbiana County from May 20 through Aug. 30.
- Eligibility requirements: Resident of Columbiana County.
-Income eligible: Within 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.
-Age: 16 to 24 years of age. Youth in foster care may participate in the program.
Youth interested in participating in the SYEP may apply at the Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services at 7989 Dickey Drive, Suite 2 on May 7, 8 or 9 between 1 and 6 p.m.
A make-up application day will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. May 16. Evening appointments for May 16 must be scheduled no later than May 14 by calling 330-420-6513 or 330-420-6514.
Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents/guardians must bring the following for their child: birth certificate, Social Security card, photo I.D., copy of most recent report card and if youth would like their pay to be direct deposited, a copy of a voided check or savings account statement is needed. The CCDJFS anticipates that 55 worksites will participate in the program.
Music Can Cure accepting nominations of inspiring teens
SALEM - Do you know a teen who has stood strong and stayed positive during their battle with a terminal illness? Tell us their story and why they inspire you to make the most of each day. The most inspiring teen will win a brand new Kindle Fire HD to comfort them during their time at the hospital.

NEW WATERFORD - A carry-out dinner is being planned to benefit the East Fairfield United Methodist Church Relay for Life Team.

OSU Buckeye Sports Bulletin publisher will speak at banquet
SALEM - Dr. Will Stamp, president of the Columbiana County Ohio State Alumni Association, has announced that the annual banquet begins at 6 p.m. May 2 at the Salem Golf Club.
Frank Moskowitz, publisher of the OSU Buckeye Sports Bulletin, will be the guest speaker.

SALEM - The Kent State Salem CommUniversity Choir is presenting its annual spring concert at 7 p.m. May 4 in the Kent State University City Center auditorium. This year's theme is "Color Your World With Song."
The free public concert will feature the blended voices of KSU students, faculty and community members.
It is under the direction of Mel Fucci, music instructor at KSU Salem.
Salem students will perform during upcoming presentations
SALEM - Musical entertainment is planned next month at two schools in Salem. The Salem Junior High/Senior High Band concert begins at 6:30 p.m. May 6 in the high school auditorium.
The Fifth-Grade Band concert will be held at 6 p.m. May 13 in the Southeast School gym.
Also scheduled to perform is the Sixth-Grade Band concert at 6 p.m. May 16 in the Southeast School gym. The public is welcome to all performances.
'Designing Unique Summer Containers' being offered
COLUMBIANA - "Designing Unique Summer Containers" with Keith Kaiser will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 15 at the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St.

Salem Library plans "Turn Off the TV Week' April 29-May 5
SALEM - Salem Public Library has a series of activities planned from April 29 through May 5 during "Turn Off the TV Week."
All events take place in the library's Quaker Room at 821 E. State St.
Family Craft Night begins at 6:30 p.m. April 29 when families will create a container garden to take home.
"Let's Tell a Story" is the theme for April 30. At 6:30 p.m. families will hear stories and tell tales using the library's puppet collection, then creating puppets to take home.
Family Game Night begins at 6:30 p.m. May 1 with games and materials provided.
Children can compete individually or as a family in the LEGO Building Contest at 10 a.m. May 4.
Bring your best LEGO design (no kits), put final touches on your design, and join in the voting for best design.Voting begins at 10:30 a.m.
