SALEM - Wymadott Fern Barnes, 98, of Salem, Ohio, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Grace Woods Senior Living in Salem.
Fern was born March 7, 1915, in Leetonia, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lewis and Ella (Goodman) Hamilton.
She was a homemaker, who had earlier worked for Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa. She was a member of the Lisbon Eagles Auxiliary and both Salem and Lisbon Senior Citizens. Fern and her late husband, Neal, liked to travel in their van out west and later enjoyed many bus tours. She was a Methodist by faith.
Her husband, Neal Barnes, whom she married Feb. 9, 1938, preceded her in death June 24, 1987. An infant son, Robert Neal Barnes; granddaughter, Tanya Heffern, three brothers, Clyde, Charles and Paul Hamilton; a sister, Helen Perdue; and two half brothers and two half sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Juanita (Harold) Bates of Minerva; four grandchildren, Neal and David Bates of Minerva, Mark Bates of Georgia and Elaine Reagle of Pennsylvania; four great-grandchildren, Jessica and Michael Heffern of Pennsylvania and Allison and Casey Bates of Minerva; a great-great-grandchild, Rynn Heffern of Pennsylvania; a nephew, Paul Hamilton; and a niece, Donna of California.
Private graveside services with family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 19, 2013, at the Oakdale Cemetery Chapel. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements were handled by the Stark Memorial Funeral Home.
