Graffiti art for hire

April 19, 2013
Salem News

Salem graphic design artist Rustin Rapp creates a mural depicting downtown Salem events and places, such as the Salem Super Cruise and a poker run, on the wooden barricade in front of a building owned by Scott Cahill on East State Street. Cahill commissioned Rapp to paint the graffiti mural as part of Murals of Salem, an organized effort to place murals on Salem buildings. Two additional murals will be done on the old Center building on East Second Street and the Moonstone Massotherapy building, also downtown. Rapp said it's a way to show that not all graffiti is vandalism. The mural will remain until the remodeling of the building is complete. Other murals in Salem include two historical murals by Salem artist Robert Schuck and one by Salem area artist Krista Lowry and her sister Kerry Franzen. (Salem News photo by Mary Ann Greier)
