SALEM - Earl C. Slagle, 85, of Salem, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem.
He was born July 16, 1927, a son of the late Owen C. and Esther (Bush) Slagle.
Mr. Slagle was a 1945 graduate of Greenford High School. He was self-employed as a vegetable farmer, retiring in 1996, a 4-H advisor, and displayed vegetables at the Canfield Fair that he grew on his farm. He was also a 51-year member of the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as treasurer. In addition he was member of the Greenford Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death on Sept. 27, 2010, by his wife, Ruth (Allen) Slagle, whom he married Dec. 31, 1949.
He is survived by a son, William Slagle of Columbiana; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Marilyn Mae) Davisson of Lake Milton and Mrs. Lucy Inetta (Rev. Peter) Larson of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Erica Slagle and Jessica (Jacob) Lodge; and a great-grandchild Jesse James Lodge.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Lester Edward Slagle; and a son, Eugene Slagle.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Greenford Lutheran Church with Pastor William Wilkins officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
