MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Joyce Bloomberg Covert, 73, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died on Saturday, March 23, at her home after a long illness.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1940, in Salem, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Helen and Alroy Bloomberg.
Joyce was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School.
Prior to her retirement in 2010, Mrs. Covert served as a travel agent and booking representative in Myrtle Beach. While in Salem she was employed and later became the owner of Bloomberg's Inc. Casual Fashions, a ladies retail store that was founded by her mother, Helen. The original Bloomberg's was established in 1907 by her grandfather, Joseph Bloomberg, and was later owned by her father, Alroy, until his death in 1959. Mrs. Covert was very involved in the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by Hayes Covert, her husband of 51 years; her daughters, Criss of Myrtle Beach, Alisa McDonald and her husband Randy of Myrtle Beach; a son, Mark and his wife Janet, also of Myrtle Beach; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jac Bloomberg and his wife Ellen, of Livingston, N.J.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 24, in Myrtle Beach.
