Figure skater from Salem will vie in State Games of America

Figure skater Kelly Hutton, the 10-year-old daughter of Rob and Deri Hutton of Salem, competed last month in the Keystone State Games, Pennsylvania State Championships.

She earned a silver medal in her program, qualifying to compete at the State Games of America, scheduled for August in Hershey, Pa.

The State Games of America Figure Skating Championships is a biennial Olympic-style event featuring competition between state game medal winners (gold, silver, bronze) from across the nation.

Hutton will compete against the finest skaters in the country. The State Games of America hosts over 10,000 athletes ranging from 20 different sports.

Hutton is a member of the Youngstown Phantoms Figure Skating Club. She has been skating for seven years, sometimes training before school at 6:30 am.

She is a fourth grader at Reilly Elementary School in Salem.
