SALEM - Joseph E. Cody, 90, of Salem, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Salem Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Salem, Ohio, son of the late Arthur and Mary (Winkler) Cody.
Joseph retired in 1981 from the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. as a repairman with 33 years of service. He previously worked at Mullins Mfg., Taylor Craft and National Sanitary.
He was a 1941 graduate of Salem High School and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Joseph served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in Europe. He received the European Theater Medal, American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Medal, a Bronze Star and six Battle Stars.
He is survived by his wife, Marian (Martin) Cody whom he married June 21, 1949; three sons, Ronald Cody of Cape May, N.J., Donald Cody and his wife Amy of Dayton and Randy Cody and his wife Joni of Salem; and a granddaughter, Ashley Cody Roman and her husband, Matt.
Also preceding him in death was a sister, Mary Sweeney; and three brothers, Arthur Cody Jr., Merlin Cody and Earl Cody.
Private arrangements will be held. Interment will be at the Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
